Cutting down on carbs?

Sia*, 3 August, 2008 at 11:10 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 3

Hi ?

I want to cut down the amount of carbs I eat...perhaps cut them out of the evening meal. However, I am struggling! Everything I eat for dinner is carb based...pasta...all sorts of potatoes etc.

Has anyone done this before? Does it work? Any tips?

TIA Smiley smile x

Carbs may be heavy in calories but you need them as part of a balanced diet. Check you're eating the right portion size (around 75g of pasta/rice per person). Also look at wholewheat pasta and brown rice as a lower GI option.

Thanks BGB. I think portion size is something I definitely need to re-evaluate.

I was thinking of eating my carbs for lunch. Already eating brown rice, I just can't get my tastebuds round the brown pasta ?

If i'm going to the gym in the evening then I have my carbs at lunchtime ie. jacket spud. Or like BGB says, have the pasta/rice but maybe only a spoonful or so, have more of the sauce instead if you like. I tend to make bolognese these days with only a small quantity of mince and bulk it up with tinned toms so it's not particularly fattening to eat a large amount IYSWIM

Thanks guys, I am also going to look into the low GI approach and this 'Eat Less Move More' appears to be doing wonders!
