Cutting the cake!!

mattsgirl, 24 July, 2012 at 20:39 Posted on Planning 0 7

Good evening,

When will you/did you cut the cake?

I am only asking as our TOG is only booked for 4 hours so he will be gone at 3.30pm but we dont sit down until 2.20pm then have speeches. The 3 course meal should start 2.45 and wedding coordinator said meal could take an hour and a half to an hour and 3/4!!

Can the cutting of the cake be after the speeches and before the meal or does it have to be at the end of the meal? Because do you feed each other the piece of cake?? ?

It depends on the order of other things really. It sound like you're having your speeches before the meal, in which case I think it would be perfect after the speeches anyway. If me and OH decide to feed each other, it will most probably be at the reception anway so would just rely on family photos. I don't think I'll want to eat cake before 3 more courses of food, or after I've just had desert. I think it would probably just before the buffet is brought out, so it will be easy to announce the buffet without relying on a mumble from the DJ, a la Peter Kay lol, and it can then be sent away to be chopped up and brought out after people have had some buffet munch x

(I'm not sure I want a proper pic of OH shoving cake in my face anyhow ?)

People tend to do a fake cake cutting if you want a TOG picture done I would suggest doing this.

I can't honestly see me and OH feeding each other. It's def not compulsary. Looks like fun, but my OH would probably get acrried away and it's be all up my nose and in my hair and all sorts, so I think we'll just do the posey cutting and just eat some off a plate later on x

This is a symbolic act in "some" faiths although not compulsory. As suggested earlier, if your tog is only paid for a limited time, then compromises have to be done...and a posed cutting of the cake is one of them...

I think the feeding each other cake/smashing it in each other's faces is more of an American thing. I've not seen it at any of the UK weddings I've been to. So no, you don't have to do that if you aren't keen on having cake all over your face/hair/veil...

We had a fake cutting picture with the tog before the meal and speeches, there was only us 2 and her there. We actually cut it once the evening guests had all arrived, just after the first dance, it was then taken off and cut up and served along with the evening food. That way it gave the evening guesta another thing to "see" IYKWIM?
