Darn having a career and getting married!!

happy_feet, 18 March, 2011 at 18:02 Posted on Planning 0 6

See...I was really pleased with my organisation.. Been engaged 20 days, and we decided to get married this year as we had some savings we could use and I'm a school teacher so can only get married summer hols, so it was 5 months or 17!

So far have the following

-Venue booked

-Band

-Bridesmaid dresses organised, sample of material arrived so can get the boys sorted

-wedding dress up stairs (amazing find of a ronald joyce for £400 in a sale! Cleo modle- just love it!)

-appointment tomorrow morning for rings

-shoes

-veil

-cake ordered

-invitations being made

-registrar booked

-giving notice in April

Then i find out... i have a massive BTEC qualification assessment to do for the 4th April..... will have to put other planning on hold for a good few weeks I think Smiley sad I might be able to sneak on here for a quick break here and there. But gutted, was looking forward to just been engaged for a bit... now I have to work every hour god sent! Sorry just wanted to moan for a bit, and not too the other half!!

I feel your pain - I'm a school teacher too. Got engaged back in Oct 2009, but due to lack of funds and wanting to get married in the summer holidays, our engagement will have lasted 22 months! However, down to almost 4 months and the bank balance is looking a bit healthier now!

My wedding planning has suffered due to report writing, planning, marking etc. but I have made up for it at half terms and during the holidays! ?

I feel your pain! I'm working full time, with lots of late nights and traveling, studying for a high level qualification having to study 15 hours a week on top of work and assignments to do, keep a house running and plan a wedding for just a few months time. My decision on the way home from work is what task I'll tackle the night when I finally get home - ironing, cleaning, more work that needs to be done, reading for assignment or actual assignment writing. Plus trying to keep up with friends and have some time with H2B of course!

I've found that setting aside certain evenings for tasks helps - Monday is ironing night, Saturday is housework, Sundays are assignment led etc helps but it's never set in stone as sometimes I am just so tired I just have to chill in front of the TV and head to bed. But at least that way when I spend hours on wedding planning/hitched I don't feel guilty as I know the next night is dedicated to other tasks.

It is hard work being a teacher and planning a wedding - although well done you for organising so much in such a short time! x

My fella is a primary school teacher so we had to plan the wedding around school holidays. We decided on the may half term, but only having a mini moon as the hubby wants to be back by thursday to catch up with marking and lesson plans for the monday. Not sure why we didnt wait until august, but that would have made more sense thinking about it now! Bloody teachers...Smiley winking

Haha- i know we are a total pain, it is much more expensive for weddings in August, never mind honeymoon! I must admit we got a good last minute deal with the venue for the sunday date so were lucky. Although struggling with destinations for honeymoon now as hurricane season is around in the Caribbean, and we are not convinced worth the risk. Maybe we'll just do turkey!? A lot of teachers got married in the half term last year and saved their honeymoon for the summer hols! xx

Ah thanks, and fingers crossed for that promotion. I will be fine I have 4 weeks of school holidays before I get married so there will be lots of time to do things. I just dont want to do school work at all at the moment! Did get the rings ordered this morning! So housework and marking today then! x
