Days Gone By....

mandspice, 15 February, 2013 at 19:54 Posted on Planning 0 60

We're not the first ones to do this......

Nostalgia has taken over tonight and we'e dug out my mum and dad's old wedding photos. They got married in 1970 and I love these two pics. The wedding was in Heacham, Norfolk and the reception in Hunstanton, by the sea. You can see my Auntie Peggy trying to tame the veil in the second pic. Apparently in those days it was normal to have the ceremony and reception and for the day to finish around 6pm - no evening do.

Share your mum and dad's (or other relatives) wedding stories and pics from the 70s/ 80s Smiley smile

Great photo Peter - and here's us in 1983:-

This was in the days of Princess Diana - huge train, huge sleeves and everything floaty and fluffy! Most people then also had just a reception which finished around 5/6pm. It was rare for couples to live together so they didn't hang around after the wedding as they were eager to get away on honeymoon Smiley winking Brides had a 'going away' outfit which she quickly changed into in the toilets at the reception and then everyone waved them off with tin cans trailing on the car and 'just married' scrawled in lipstick on the windows.

That's a lovely idea Doddyclaire. Happy Anniv to them!

And fab pic Peter. I was a bridesmaid for my auntie in the 80s and she wore a very similar dress!

I can't see the pic Rainbow Florist Smiley sad

I remember the tin cans from 80s /90s weddings ha!

Weddings then always seemed less about all the "stuff" you're supposed to have and more about the celebration.

Very true - also there wasn't as much choice in 'stuff' then either so nobody knew any different. I'll try to flash it again, fingers crossed:-

I hope that you do not mind but I have turned it around and "tweeked" it a little for you

I may of over cooked the upper arm veil area but I wanted to try and get the detail out - looks like lace

Thank you glad that you like it. For me detail and colour are king I get so frustrated when I see shots with a white blob where the dress detail should be

Any one else that wants me to tweek their old photos let me know

My parents aren't married (never have been) and my grandparents didn't have a wedding as such so this is the only photo I have of them, at someone else's wedding I believe.

    Sorry it's not uber weddingy.

I think my grandad may well have been Count Dracula though! My nan hasn't changed a bit.

We know that they are not from the cameras flash as they are in the wrong position for that

I think that they are inside because it is raining, because it is raining it is dark, and they have a lamp on a side table giving the shadows.

Even from a nice roaring fire as it looks a low light and would be in the right position in the room for that shadow.

Or I am guesing that they have a big mirror brought down from the bedroom and the angle of it has caught the camra flash as this may well of been a cube flash which is not as directional

My own guess is a Metz type flashgun which traditionally mounted on the left of the camera and would explain the heavy shadow to the right of the faces.........The other shadows are much less intense which implies another source or a reflected source travelling a greater distance from a low angle, hence it being softer....your mirror idea might explain this.

I wouldnt say it is Not a metz as that is a pro flsah and a pro would not cut off the subject like that and take mostly a picture of curtains.
