Decent optician in London? [for contact lenses]

Ruby 2, 19 March, 2009 at 15:31 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

I'm not saying the big chains of opticians are necessarily bad, but i've found them pretty shoddy lately to be honest [this is in London]. I really begrudge giving them any money at the moment. Does the decent, independent optician exist anymore? Or even the decent chain optician?! I'd even be willing to pay more if they were good. And do independent places offer the kind of 'contact lenses by post' schemes that the chains do [which is what i'm after]?

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated! Thank you ?

My company uses the Kings Cross Eye Clinic - it's 2 secs up Pentoniville Rd from the station and it's great. No. 1 optician in the country, I think.

Very cool digital eyes tests - I was really surprised!

They do contacts but don't know about mail order etc.

Thanks Zebra - sounds really great, shall investigate. Don't mind picking up my lenses to be honest - just want some decent service.

Michel Guillon near Sloane Square does the most comprehensive contact lenses check I've experienced, but it also costs a bomb (£100+). Otherwise I find 20 20 at Tottenham Court Road OK (and within normal price range). They both do lenses subscription plan which sends out lenses to you periodically.

On the order by post side, I normally get the test done and then order the lenses through a cheaper online retailer.

    Hope this helps.

Ouch - not sure i can bring myself to spend that much money! But 20 20 sounds good, and it's handy for me, so i shall investigate. I was thinking of getting the contact lenses on the internet too...maybe now is the time to do that. I'd just like to know i have a good optician as back up if i need any eye care. Thanks safetyzone ?
