De-Christmassing the house.

HeidiHole, 29 December, 2008 at 15:14 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I'm not talking about taking down trees and decorations, I'm talking about getting your house back to normal. I did the dining room yesterday and I've just spent hours sorting the bedrooms which were full of boxes and other assorted crap, I have finally got my kitchen back to pre Christmas normality too. How and why does this happen? It's SO annoying, you feel like your house will never be straight again.

I am also pissed off that the spare room is going to have to be a playroom now rather than the lovely reading room/study we had planned. Gah.

We're still in full lurgy mode here so am postponing sorting out the house. I haven't the faintest idea where I'm going to put all these new toys, and the kitchen is overflowing with food- uneaten mince pies that H doesn't like and I've gone off during pregnancy and biscuits, biscuits everywhere- we got a biscuit hamper from my parents. It's going to take a while before the place is normal again.

I thought I was nearly there but, thinking about it, I'm not! The dining room and lounge are OK except for tree/lights/cards and they don't take long to sort out. The kitchen is full of all that special, treat type food and a few things we got that I need to find a home for in there. All of the rest of the house is fine except for the box room which is stuffed full of things which were put there to be out of the way over Christmas, boxes of things to be put into the attic, wrapping paper and a couple of presents still to be delivered and other stuff after reorganising the spare bed and storage. I think its going to take me a few weeks to get that room into order.

What you all need is a 2 bed flat with no storage space to force you to be brutal. At least, I tell myself it's an advantage ?

I have already taken down the main decorations - was getting sick of the clutter. If I had my way the tree would be down too but will live with it until new years day. I have no idea where all the new toys are going. I really need a bigger house (or an extension) but no chance of that in the forseeable future.

Took the shed loads of boxes for recycling today so slightly less clutter hanging around. The garage is a tip though..........

I feel your pain - I have only had drinks/nibbles parties over Christmas and my house is a tip! Well, not really a tip as such, but I have crockery and crystal boxes all over the kitchen! I am to scared to use the 'nice' stuff every day. Which is sad really, but I am too clumsy to use them every day ? I am Hyacynth Bucket ?
