Decorating question

If you're decorating a room (ceilings, window frames, skirting boards, walls) so you do the wood work first or last?

Last in case you drip paint on it while you're doing the walls/ceiling.

Cool, I always thought you did if first (because of sanding it down) but my decorators are doing it last and I wanted to make sure they're doing it right.

I'm fast loosing confidence in them. In a week they've managed to scratch my flooring, break my bespoke roller blind, break a mug from the wedding set (why they didn't use one of the 20 other mugs I don't know) and leave a window open (we live in a ground floor flat and neither H or I got home till 10.30pm last night).

I just want to cry about it all. ?

I start and the top and work down. So ceilings, then walls and then woodwork.

Could you have a word with the manager/owner/boss? Leave them out the mugs they can use - pack the others up if you have to. Ask them what they are going to do about the floor and the blind. Tell them that they must make sure the house is secure when they leave as otherwise you'll be claiming against them if there is a breakin (as I guess your insurance wouldn't cover it).

Hope its over soon and your room/house looks fab.

My natural instinct is to do the woodwork first but our decorators also did it last.

Thanks for your answers ladies. I'll take order of decorating off my stress list. ?

Kegsey - I've left a message for the "director" of the company to talk to him about my issues. I can live with a broken cup, it's not the end of the world, but the scratch in the floor, the broken blind and open window are things that can't be ignored. I'm very bad at dealing with stuff like this though.

I always do woodwork first as its a lot easier to do neat edging with emulsion than gloss type paint. Maybe this doesn't apply to professional decorators as they are good at edging with any paint.

I always do ceiling first then woodwork-doorframes and skirting then i do walls i found as it was gloss and if it dripped down onto skirting it was so easy to wipe the paint off withno marks

But then im not pro ?
