Decorating your venue

BlushingBride2012, 7 February, 2011 at 21:21 Posted on Planning 0 10

Do any brides have any tips on decorating a venue on a very tight budget. Our theme is summer time and love (i know the simplest theme ever lol). I already have my table centres sorted so dont need help with them just need help to make the room look a little less plain. We are getting married and having our reception at Mabie House Hotel in Dumfries (feel free to google so you can see), but i have seen pics from other people getting married there and it can look a little plain so need cheap yet stunning ideas, im a girly girl so did wonder about fairy lights, especially for the first dance thought it would look pretty.

Thanks for your help xxx

OOOh...fairy lights!! I'm pinching that idea!! Have you considered some sort of draping material to cover plain walls to match in with your colour scheme? You can (I'm not sure exactly how) attach one end of the material from the celing and it hangs vertically to the floor and then gathers/draps at the floor. I know that some companies specialise in this but to be honest you can get cheap material from local market stalls and do it yourself? Let me know what you think? x

I love fairy lights, we are having those! You can sometimes find huge strings of them on eBay for not too much money.

Personally I think chair covers and bows can instantly transform the look of a room and make it feel 'weddingy'... they can be expensive though Smiley sad Alternatives include ribbon on the backs of chairs, or hanging wooden hearts from them.

Our venue has some ugly grey pinboards on wheels which we can't remove... my dad is going to India (to visit his mum, not for this purpose LOL) and is going to pick up some saris in our colour scheme which we will drape over the boards.

Yeh i like chair covers, luckily the lady doing our photography has an events organising company and because she is a friend of my sisters she is going to do it cheaply for us (chair covers and centre pieces, she has already knocked 250 off our photography), I do like the idea of draping fabric, have always like this idea but i am unsure how to do it lol! i know that sounds really thick, but the venue should know how to do this shouldnt they x

I have a completely plain reception venue that I'm decorating and sooo happy I found this post, I'm thinking of using mostly draping (DIY) lights and bows and balloons lol.

Blushingbride2012 that's a fab deal lol gonna try and get chair covers Smiley smile

OT but I have a gripe about chair covers. If the venue had nice chairs, we won't really need chair covers do we ;( And if we brought our own, they won't even put it on for us! *rant over*

I recently spoke to my venue in regards to what to do decorations wise and they said whlist they be happy to put up fairy lights etc, based on their experience of using them during summer weddings that it seems a bit pointless as the daylight hours are so long the full effect of the fairylights weren't seen til pretty much the end of the night when used outside or were over shadowed by the disco light inside. Just thought I'd mention it although you might still think they'll still be suitable for your venue.

This confused me.... then I realised this post must have been bumped by a spammer... it's from 2011!

I don't think Mrs C is referring to Rosie. Sometimes spammers bump posts but their posts are removed. Unfortunately the post stays bumped.

Hi, How about pretty coloured lanterns with tea lights if your venue allows them. they are reasonably priced in supermarkets and garden centres at the momont.
