Decorations in a marquee

Freebird30, 12 March, 2015 at 01:59 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi ladies

hope you r all well. So I'm up at this silly hour because my head is spinning about decorations in the marquee. I need help. I get married in august (fingers crossed for nice dry weather). I'm having a rustic countryside theme, do lots of wild flowers, hessian, old crates and tin cans but trying to steer away from the 'vintage theme'. With bunting tho

My head is in a pickle about tables ... Weather to have round or trestle . I prefer round as feel it's more sociable however am struggling for suitable decoration ideas. The food we r having is Southern American so slow pulled pork, smoked chicken, cornbread , cowslaw and salad that type of thing and instead of a buffet style to prevent people having to queue we are going to have it served on platters to each table, so like a Jamie Oliver kind of style, makes a great conversation piece too then and is a bit different. So then if I'm having wooden boards served on the table do I bother doing table centrepieces? If I don't will it look really bare? I don't want every thing white / ivory in the marquee so it looks plain can't stand that but then I don't want to spend a fortune on centrepieces when they are just going to be moved out of the way? I can't use candles as people will need to reach over to help themselves to food.

My colours are kind of duck egg blue, slightly darker blue , brown/taupe (hessian) , gold, ivory with a few sunflowers / wild flowers

any ideas appreciated

Thanks

karen

Maybe you could use hessian cloth covered containers or rustic baskets and use these for bread rolls - they are usually lined with plastic for putting food/fruit in. There are different designs available in these. Or you could use miniature cacti in small aluminium buckets that your guests could take away with them as gifts. I think I would steer away from traditional centrepieces as they would get in the way when it comes to eating.

I would go for round tables and preferably 6ft ones or larger as you will have more room in the middle for the bowls and platters. You could go for simple centre pieces, that could be easily removed for the meal if necessary, remember they can be put back after and will look nice for the rest of the evening.

    Hello,

Our plans are very similar to yours. We have gone for a jug in the middle of the table which will have wheat in, 3 candles and a table runner. It can be easily moved if needed but it is small and low so should be fine for the sharing platters.

We thought about having nothing but thought it would look a little sad when you first walk in.

We are having afternoon tea served at our tables so have a similar issue! We spoke to our caterers about it though and they reassured us that as long as we didn't have ginormous centrepieces they can work around them. We are having round tables, and I think as long as you don't try and cram too many people around them there should be enough room for something in the centre, or between people. Definitely speak to your venue/caterers and see what they recommend, they must have served other weddings in a similar way.

You could go for a small wooden box or basket filled with flowers that you can easily remove when food is served. Or perhaps a few smaller items (a small jug of flowers and some candles etc.) along with a nice table runner, so there is plenty of space. Colourful napkins might also help the tables look more 'dressed'?

    Our theme is pretty similar.

We have gone for round tables with a wood slice in the middle with 3 little jars with a few flowers in them. They can be easily moved around for the sharing food.

We will have bunting around the edge of the marquee and that's about it! Here's a flash....idea from pinterest and my jars that I have been decorating Smiley smile
