Dental Floss (boring question)

Mrs Cee, 22 October, 2008 at 10:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Does anyone use one of those battery operated dental floss things and are they any good? I think Oral B make them. My dentist has advised me to floss more and I have heard that these ones are more effective? ?

My FIL is a dentist and he recommends them, however my hygenist doesn't and I can't remember why. I used to use one but found it expensive keep replacing the floss part. Now I just use dental tape and my dentist says there is nothing more I could be doing. Floss once a day before you brush and preferably in the evening.

I use those disposable plastic things which have the floss ready-strung. Can't remember what they're called, but they're sold in Boots on the same aisle as the dental floss.

I find that using normal floss or dental tape makes me gag as it feels like I'm sticking my fingers down my throat.

I think they're called TePe. Or something similar. They come in different sizes to suit your teeth.

I asked my dentist about Waterpiks this week (they are battery operated flossers that spray a jet of water instead of floss). She said that plain old floss or the floss strung over a piece of disposable plastic are the best because you can see what comes out and you can feel resistance if you miss anything.

Then she estimated 6000 USD of work that my UK dentist should have done over the past 3 years, coupled with "who did this to you?"-type comments.... Guess what I'll be getting for Xmas *sigh*

I use floss handles that I bought at the dentist. They are just a set of plastic handles that you put whatever floss you like on (I like the glide tape). It makes it much easier and you don't have to try and fit your hands in your mouth! It's the only way I can clean my wisdom teeth too.
