We got free dental treatment when our income was under 13k. This was a few years ago though. We had excemption cards. If you haven't got a card then maybe you won't get it free.

Hi Busybee29, if you're in agony then you should be entitled to an emergency appointment I think? So ring up and tell them you're in agony and need to be seen today, and ask the dentists about whether you can get it free. If it's not free you might be able to pay in installments as well. Also the CAB might be worth a try re: the entitlement advice if you can get through to them.

Do you have a dental hospital near you? The one in my city has a sort of 'Dentist A & E' where you can go for emergency treatment. You just turn up and wait.

I made an appointment yesterday with an NHS dentist and the first appointment i could get was in August. The pain was on and off then and thought i could keep going. Then Later on i was in agony. No one could get me in any quicker as i wasn't registered with them. I called NHS direct for the names of more NHS dentists and they put me through to their dentist people, they took my number called me back within 15 minutes with an emergency appointment for that afternoon.

I have an abcess in the tooth next to my crown. I have to take antibiotics for a week and then go back for a another x ray. He thinks i may need a root canal. They have limited NHS funding but he is going to give me as much treatment as he can on the NHS and we can see what i will have to pay to have done privately. I got some painkillers and feel so much better!!

I checked with tax credits we dont qualify for free treatment, but at least i do have an appointment with an nhs dentist lined up.

Thank you for the replies, i was so desperate this morning!!
