Cosmopolitan, 27 March, 2009 at 20:19 Posted on Planning 0 11

As above really. Do photographers require a deposit when booking?

Really need to book ours ASAP but we're a bit skint at the min!

    Hiya!

    I've looked into a couple of photographers so far & all require a deposit - between £200 - £300 x

    Hiya!!

Ours took a deposit of £100 total package was £695.

It probably depends on the company as to wether or not they take a deposit and if so then how much.

Our videographer took a deposit of £50, but held our booking provisionally for 2 weeks before we "confirmed" with the completed booking form and deposit.

HTH and good luck searching for a photographer.

    Luv Victoria

Hi! Yes, at Peter says it is standard, it protects you as well, as a contract usually has to be signed to confirm your deposit payment . Expect to pay anthing from £50 upto £500. I take a £250 deposit but if couple's are struggling I have taken only £50 and then a bit more a few months later. If you explain to your photographer then i'm sure they may do the same?

    good luck!

    Nicola

Thanks all, it was what I was expecting tbh! Wishful thinking!

Hey ho, thats what flexible friends are for.

Having said all this I haven't yet looked into photographers but I know I need to get it booked ASAP.

Ours is £1650 and the deposit was £150. Whereabouts are you? H2B knows someone who is just starting outin weddings but her other photography is fantastic and her wedding packages are really cheap. (she started after we booked ours)

Yeah, unfortunately then will all require a deposit to secure them.

Our photographer was only £720 but he required a 20% deposit which is £144. They are probably all different with regards to the amount they require to secure them.

Sorry - I know that isn't really what you wanted to hear! Good luck with your search.

Unfortunatly photographers require a deposit simply so as they can secure and reserve that day for you.

As you can imagine, we often get enquiries after a booking for the same day, and we simply say we've not available. But if we haven't recived a deposit, then its very difficult to know if someone is serious, and we can't really turn down paid work.

Personally at the moment I am being a gentleman as much as possible and being flexible with peoples deposits, but the reality is, whilst I can initially work with a small desposit, once I start getting enquiries for the same date, then I really do unfortunatly need to jump on couples to settle the remainder of the 'proper' deposit.

The photographer and videographer are both areas we've had to cut back on in order to afford our dream venue. Our total photo package is only £695 and our total video package is £625. We've had to pay a deposit of £100 to secure each of those for our date.

    HTH
