Derbyshire Photographer help...

zebralea, 19 November, 2012 at 17:30 Posted on Planning 0 26

Ok... I have only lived in the area for a year so i don't know many vendors, so need your help, Photographers for my day! Or even photographers that are willing to travel without charging an arm and leg.....

One thing to note is we (myself and my partner) are photographers (motorsport photography - F1 GP2 GP3 etc etc etc) so i know what i want in a way....

Who i pick has to have a team of 2... i don't believe that a wedding can be covered right with just one photographer... there is always something one is going to miss... but the other will get it...

Want someone with great lighting skills, someone who shots the shot they want so they don't go over heavy on post editing.

Relaxed style, which isn't going to date too much....

Help please Smiley smile

Thanks in advance! x

That is going to be a tough job, for you to narrow it down!

My philosophy is all about quality over quantity, but I work on my own so that might rule me out to begin with.

If you don't think a wedding can be photographed adequately by one person, then check this guy out. Personally I would much rather be delivered less work from what he see's as opposed to many more pictures from two lesser photographers.

Below are some sample shoots, and there is also a sample of when I tried some Motorsport photography one time.

You're right, but even if you had a team of 6, they'd still miss 95% of what goes on. ?

have a look at our website www.rswphotography.co.uk, or you can have a look on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/rswphotography for some of our recent work.

Husband is also a keen Motorsport photographer, although only tend to do it for our friends!

Cheers, for the names so far, will take a good look when I get home, currently out in America after covering the American GP.

Yes Chris Giles, going to be a hard job, I have my venue and dress so now to us the photographer is next important thing we must now look at!

I have issues with how some photographers crop their work, so far we have met with one photographer, because i do like his work and how he does his lighting skills... he would be in the running for the job but want to look around and see what else is about...

Have been to a few wedding fayres, and only have saw two photographers work i would consider meeting to see more of their work...

Just being quite picky but i believe i will know the photographer work when i see it and know they are the one to shoot our day.... need a good all round photographer..

    Hi,

If you're still looking for someone and like natural modern style check my website www.pm-photography.co.uk or for more recent work my FB page www.facebook.com/pm-photographycouk.

I usually work myself but if you require 2nd shooter I can cover your day with my wife who's a photographer as well. Check the links above and if you think our style is for you get in touch.

    All the best,

    Mark

I'm getting married in 2014 and all I get is 'Ooh who's going to be your photographer then'.

Already tired of it and frankly, I have absolutely no idea.

Although it is sinking in that they won't be like me.... which in a way is liberating as I'm no longer looking for someone who shoots the same way I do.

We had Field Photographic, really pleased with the photos we got from them. They are based in Heanor, Derbyshire. Where abouts are you getting married zebralea?

Tell me about it! I am not asking any of my motorsport photographers (even though they could do a great job) because i do not want me walking down the aisle with speed blur!

Want to forget i'm a photographer on my day and not have to worry about one thing. Smiley smile

Chris are you struggling to narrow it down to one or to pick one you like at all? I'd know exactly who I'd have, sometimes wish I was getting married again (to my Husband of course) just so he could shoot it. You get to work with so many wonderful suppliers in this industry that I could choose at the drop of a hat from every category. I'd be saving for a long time but I'd have them! Haha

I'm struggling to pick one I like at all.....but there have been a few I like the look of it's just that my workload has only just relaxed enough for me to do any kind of proper looking. One problem is that I deliberately try not to look at other photographers work so that it doesn't influence mine.

One thing I can safely say is that up to a point, price doesn't matter. I know people who cost twice the price I do, in some cases three times as much whose work I don't like. Or that it looks amateurish. Then there is a guy whose wedding I'm shooting next year who has only done a few weddings, his work is excellent and more in line with what I shoot.....but I'll definitely want someone with more experience.

As us pros know, the determining factors that make up a good photographer is their experience, personality, equipment and more importantly their enthusiasm. I see so many togs online who look as though they've given up, treating it as 'just a job'.

I will say who won't get considered though, anyone who takes photos of the bride sitting on the grass. You know, where they look as though she's fallen into a hole in the lawn?

That and spot colour, those folk are out of the running too. ?

In a way I'm glad I got married before I met all these wonderful people so I don't envy you at all. The great thing is you've got the knowledge and eye for what's good and what's not. Makes me sad when I see a fortune spent on a beautiful dress but then a family member shoot it. Doesn't do it justice. Has the future Wife just left you to it? Ha!

I did suggest I'd get the morning shift and she'd do the afternoon.

She didn't say anything but I got 'the look' ?

I see so many photographers who shot like the above photograph and other 'awful' posing and edits.... puts me off trying to pick someone..

Also about the cost, some people are like i only charge £250 for full day coverage.... yeah but the work you get will be worth that much! I know a lot of people are happy with the images they have got from cheaper photographers... but i am a believer in that you really pay for what you get... ofcourse in every field of work some people charge OTT prices for ok work.

Also for the photographers which have already commented on this tread, would you consider giving full res images to a client? Say in my case, photographer to photographer would you be willing to do this?

I know a lot of people don't like doing it because of copyrights etc but someone who is in the same field as you is going to respect copyrights... (well they should....if they are pros)

I'll always give the full resolution images over. Whilst there are exceptions, it's pretty much standard practice now in the wedding business.

Copyright is something I hold for commercial protection, for both sides. i.e. no stock site selling, magazines must let me know about use first etc. Just out of courtesy if anything. As far as personal use, making albums, duplicating the disc for relatives, uploading online to a personal space like Facebook there's no restrictions.

Just this week a guy whose wedding I did was a designer so I sent him 26gb of uncompressed Tiffs over as well as the Jpegs.

But, as for the raw unedited files in their entirety go I won't do that. But I hand over everything decent anyway.

Further to DW's post, there is a difference between High Res and Full Res.

High Res is open to interpretation. One togs high res will be big enough to print a 5x7, another could be an A4.

Full resolution means it hasn't been scaled down from the original.

It still may mean they will be full resolution though ZL. Ask, you may find they accommodate you anyway. ?

I havent booked them yet, but I am going to. Not because they are in the same town as me, but because their work is so very natural, which is what I am want from my photographers. I have seen a gorgeous album from France, made me want to get married in France. www.thebigpicturecompany.co.uk

Mine are just over 5600 max side length, although some of the infrareds are a bit smaller.
