Destinations - Any ideas? xx

MrsMac2be, 24 September, 2010 at 12:46 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi All

We are getting married in July 2012, it is our 2nd time around so we are thinking of going abroad, possibly to the Carribean, just the 2 of us to get married and also tie-in the honeymoon at the same time.

We are then coming back to have our marriage blessed at the local Abbey for family and friends etc..

Anyway... Does anyone have any suggestions about where to go, we have looked at Barbados, St Lucia, Maldives and just dont know where to go, as we are going on our own though we would want to go somewhere where theres no children.

Any ideas would be gratefully received xx.

If I was going to get married abroad I would do it in Southern Cyprus.

Out of all the Caribbean Islands I would probably pick Antigua.

Ooh maldives looks lush, would love to go there, I think it would be a lovely wedding/honeymmon destination! Barbados is lovely We got engaged there and I would definately go back there are some beautiful quiet beaches and fantastic restaurants, we stayed in st James which is quiter than some of the resorts x

My OH is South African, so we're having a proper english wedding, then two days later we're flying out to SA to have a honeymoon/blessing with all his family and friends. Have you considered South Africa? It would be winter in July so you'd get a cheaper deal.

Had never thought about Kenya or South Africa to be honest but its worth a look... We thought about Dominican Republic but a lot of people get married there and heard (possibly wrongly) that its a bit like a production line with regards to the weddings, it makes me think of some registry offices in the UK the way they get through weddings in one day.

I know getting married abroad is more popular but I suppose if we go where theres adults only it may be a little more secluded and personal? xx

We went to Tobago a couple of years ago (where my OH proposed!!), and it was beautiful, but not quite the white sand beaches we'd imagined. One thing to think about though, is what will happen if it rains? A couple got married at the resort, and it poured down, so they ended up getting married in hte little hut of a restaurant over the swimming pool, where one determined old dear continued swimming throughout! It certainly changed my mind about getting married abroad.

We were going to get married in Tobago (flight costs went through the roof and so we couldn't afford it) at the Castara Retreats under their pagoda: https://castararetreats.com/

I'm going to come across as very biased, I'm afraid, so I'll apologise in advance! ?

We're getting married on one of the small islands off the coast of Bali. We're using a tiny hotel (max capacity is 50) and will be getting married on the clifftop over looking the sea, main island and a volcano. We'll then have a cocktail reception and photos on the beach before having dinner on the same cliff top.

TBH it started off as a joke, but the more and more I looked into it, the more perfect it seemed - the island is fantastic and there seems to be so much there, from elephants to white water rafting and lots and lots of temples. So much so, that when I was offered the chance of getting married over here I was totally gutted, lol

Wherever you decide, I'm sure it'll be fantastic. Good luck x

English nationals can't get married in the maldives - you can have a blessing or a renewal but not an official wedding (at leastyou could when I looked a year ago as we considered this as an option)

we went to Mexico on our honeymoon and there quite a few weddings while we were there so that might be another option for you OP Smiley smile

Hello! I'm new and have been lurking but not yet posting a while, but had a couple of ideas for you! I'd definitely second Antigua, really cool island and some very premium hotels. Also have a look at Grenada; I love it because it feels very genuine, much less touristy than some of the other islands We love Barbados - it's on our top 3 list for honeymoons - but it is quite commercial in many resorts now. That said, there definitely are some off-the-beaten track hotels too. I think I'd pick Antigua or Grenada if I was getting married there though. Mind you, Maldives sounds amazing too...! x

Not that far away but I've just come back from a wedding in Italy.

The service took place; an island in the middle of Lake Garda. Incredible! Utterly amazing!!!
