Did anyone not have a hen do?

Little_MrsA2B, 5 May, 2015 at 18:18 Posted on Planning 0 16

Just wondering if anyone bypassed having a hen do?

I've moved countries to be with my OH and don't really know anyone in this area. My best friends are scattered internationally so I'm wondering whether to bother having a hen do. I could just go on a trip to visit them..... Hmmmm.....

I just went out with my 2 best friends (they were my bridesmaids) and we had a lovely weekend.

No, I didn't. Most of my friends are men, and I don't have sisters or SILs, so I wouldn't really have had anyone to go with. My H didn't have a stag either. We didn't want any fuss leading up to our wedding and that was part of the fuss we were both very happy to avoid!

I am in the same situation. Moved countries to be with my OH so my closest friends are in Germany. 2 are coming for the wedding but I'd never expect them to come twice, flights afe too expensive during the summer. I only have one (female) friend here who's my age and she's busy and commutes to down south for her job every week so I haven't even seen her since December (she doesn't even know when we're getting married). So I can't really imagine myself having a traditional hen do. Might do something with my FMIL though as we get on really well, and she's been a really good friend to me since I moved here 2 years ago.

I don't think I will have one but I am happy about that! May be persuaded to go for a meal or something with family but I really don't want all the fuss!!

Thanks so much for your replies Smiley smile I'm surprised as I thought I'd be the only one. It's nice not to have the fuss. Interesting some of the OHs aren't having stag dos either. Maybe these things have become more of a social pressure thing. Certainly seems that there are more stag and hen dos abroad nowadays.

By the way even if I was going to have one it'd either just be a nice dinner with cocktails out or a spa like thing. I really have no interest whatsoever in the typical hen do. My OH's dream stag do is to get to be alone for an entire evening free to do whatever he wants (watch TV or play computer games) hahaha

I hadnt been planning on having one ( and OH wasnt having a stag either). I really dont like being the centre of attention and all the fuss that goes with it so we were happy to do without. However....my mum and best friend have gone ahead and organised one for me...yikes!! slightly dreading it as it's just not me, but hopefully after a few drinks I wont care.

I'm not having one either, despite people asking me too! I would just find it too awkward personally. I don't mind attending other people's hen do's but it's not for me. OH is having a typical stag weekend though!

I feel better about that too now - thought I was the only one not having one! I don't like all that trashy dress up stuff personally anyway but being pregnant, as is my sister/BM plus friends living all over the country, it just seemed like extra expense and pressure to organise something I wouldn't overly enjoy being fat and sober anyway. OH had his stag though! It hasn't bothered me at all.

I probably won't be having one, as I hate hangovers!! But I will probably suggest to my MOH that we do a spa weekend and just pamper ourselves! This sounds much more appealing to me haha!

I think OH will have a stag but he hasn't said much about it to be fair, and I think he would prefer to do some manly, in the woods, survival weekend or something!

You are not alone Smiley smile

I was planning on going out for a meal with some of the ladies from my work, but nothing else planned.

    Not really my thing.

My current ‘hen do’ preference is to have a spa day with my best friend (also a BM) during the day and then go out for dinner in the evening with some more friends. Having attended a couple of long-weekend hen dos that cost at least £200 (fun, and each to their own, but not for me), I’m determined that it’s just going to be a meal out, somewhere that is easy for people to get to, and that isn’t expensive.

I'm not planning to have one. I don't have many girl friends, mostly OH and I go out together as we have been together a long time and funnily enough like spending time with each other! If anything, it would be afternoon tea rather than a night out or spa day ( not into spa's personally).

OH also won't be having a stag-same reasons.

We will probably go out with our pub friends a couple of weekends before but very informal.
