Did you cry when you found your dress?

Hoddy, 22 June, 2013 at 14:29 Posted on Planning 0 29

Just being nosy as so far when trying them on neither me not my mum and sister have cried but that could be because it wasn't 'the one'. Did you and your family cry?

You see it all the time on these wedding programmes!

My mum cried but then she's been blubbing since I got engaged. I keep telling her she needs to man up! I'd say she's just glad to be rid of me but I haven't lived at home for years! I didn't cry but then I'm not a big cryer. I sometimes feel guilty for not crying in situations where it is almost expected if you know what I mean?

I felt wonderful and didn't want to take it off if that helps? Smiley smile

I only had my BM with me, none of my family have seen it yet. My friend got really emotional and glassy eyed, I was just so happy and excited, I was like a Duracell bunny for a few hours and couldn't stop going I can't believe it!

I had a little catch in my throat. I'm not a massively emotional crier (I rarely cry for myself, although I can cry like a baby in front of a film), so the catch was enough to tell me that it was the right dress. My Mum looked suitably overcome, but only a couple of tears. Given that she IS a massive crier, I guess it's hard to predict a reaction.

My mum cried, then my best friend started and that was enough to let me shed a couple! x

    No ?.

When I bought my dress it was still over a year to go before my wedding day and I think I didn't feel it was real yet as in my mind I had ages to go.

I might react differently when it's been altered to fit perfectly, has a hoop to give a bit more shape and I have my veil.

That makes it sound like I wasn't keen on my dress.... I love my dress and will be even better when it's finished!

Nope. I went with my mum and I love my dress, I love wearing it and my mum looked really proud and a little 'choked' when I had it on, but neither of us cried. We just don't really get emotional about that kind of thing. We'll see what happens on the day when it's more emotional generally! Smiley smile

I didn't, I laughed and twirled. My best friend came with me and she cried at the very first dress, then she composed herself. She just laughed and shrieked along with me when I tried on the one. When my one arrived in the shop the other week she came with me again and brought her daughter, my flower girl with her. This time she bawled like a baby and little one just stood there in total awe.

No I didn't cry, I was just really really excited! That was 7.5 years ago and I still think it was the "one". I feel a bit sad that I can't wear it this time round, ha!

Nope, although I don't tend to cry very often anyway (unless it's a really good film!). My sister though did say that out of all the dresses I'd tried it was the only one that made her feel a bit choked ?

No, because that's not the sort of thing I cry about. This is probably why I would never get picked for Don't Tell the Bride!

No, didn't cry. Its a bit of a blur, it was the first one I put on. The sample was too small which didn't exactly help.

I tried on another, which I squealed at whilst in the changing room and did feel emotional in.

It came down to these two for me, and I picked the first one.

The second one was lovely, but very plain / simple where as the other one stood out more, plus looking at photos it looked really good on me whereas the other just looked average.

I wobbled big time, it came into the shop and I didn't even want to go and try it on if I'm honest as I was so scared of not liking it.

I went, and I was speechless (not in a good way). I'd been introduced to an underskirt after I picked my dress, and when I went to try they put it on with my dress.

I didn't realise how much it 'changed' my dress, and I was just looking in the mirror thinking this doesn't look as amazing as I remember!

I liked it because it was soft, floaty, and relaxed, with the underskirt it was puffier, rigid and structured...

I spent a few weeks looking at the photos I had from when I picked it, reminded myself why I loved it, went back and tried it this week.

I've ditched the underskirt again and I'm super happy and in love again Smiley smile

I do think like someone else said - its hard to be emotional in it (I found) when your wedding is still so far away, but I really felt like a 'bride' for the first time this week.

My Mum & Sister did cry at one dress I put on - but I HATED it!

The first time I tried it on I was excited and knew it was the one it just felt right, the faces on my sister, mum and mil said it all when I walked out, they didn't cry but the smiles on their faces was better than tears!!! when I went to try it on again I had goosebumbs as it went over my head! cant wait to have it back and see it again Smiley smile

Nope! So glad you asked this because I was beginning to get worried I hadn't found the one!!

ive tried on what feels like hundreds of dresses and narrowed it down to two... Still not decided yet.

Its becoming a running joke now every time I try on a dress I ask my mum if she is going to cry... She says no and then ask me the same...

No I didn't cry, and I absolutely love my dress. I don't usually cry at happy things, just sad things, so I guess that's why. My mum did look a little teary though....

I did not cry when I tried it on but my MIL did. When I went for my first dress fitting with MY dress that actually fit me I did feel a bit overwhelmed and close to tears which I think is a good sign!

I'm really glad I asked actually because it makes me feel better that it could still be the one even if I don't cry Smiley smile I do think having more than a year to go makes it feel less real and therefore less emotional.

I think there is a bit of an expectation to cry when you find 'the one', however I would say it depends how much you link the dress to the whole emotion of the wedding day. For me it was always more about finding a dress I look the best in rather than it being about the marriage, wedding day or anything else emotional! So it was a case of being pleased that after trying on about 50 dresses i'd found something I looked good in and that was also in my budget - tears never came into it! Cold as ice! ?

I got my dress today - September 2014 wedding - very unexpected. There were no tears!

i didn't want to try on dresses until I lost weight I booked the appointment 11 weeks ago and in that time lost 2 stone so half my target weight- although was hoping for a little more- the appointment crept up on me, I tried on 8 dresses and there was two obvious choices - one short one long- I'd always said I would feel cheated if I didn't have a long dress, but I did love the short one. Anyway I just had my mum with me we bought the dress went for a celebratory drink and my mum then sobbed into her glass of prosecco- LUCKILY the shop didn't give us a drink in there!

the dress was too small so its hard to tell- I'm sure there will be tears at the first fitting.

I found mine yesterday and I love it, but I didn't cry. I just laughed and smiled because I was a little over whelmed. But the, I don't cry at films or things like that so perhaps I'm not over emotional.

My mum didn't cry - she always holds back with opinions so wouldn't have revealed her first impressions anyway. I remember we were both a bit giddy with the first dress just because I was in a wedding dress.

When I tried my dress, it was the only one that transformed me and when I looked at my mum I could see she thought the same by her goofy smile. With the other dresses I looked like me but in a wedding dress. I have to keep reminding myself of that feeling as I have had it for two years and don't feel it is as special anymore.

After trying it on (the last one in that shop) my mum and I went for a coffee so we could discuss it (and prevent me buying it without consideration). We decided that I could end up trying lots of dresses to feel that way again and it wasn't worth the hassle of that. I bought it the next day (very giddy) and, as it was a sample, brought it home.
