Did you go suit shopping with your OH?

Bookish, 23 August, 2013 at 12:34 Posted on Planning 0 41

I sent mine by himself (he's yet to choose a best man, can't decide between two 'best' mates from different social circles) and apparently the woman in the shop was surprised I didn't go with him. I figured as he's been dressing himself with relative success for at least 25 years he'd manage fine. We discussed colours etc before he went but style wise he can have what he wants. I want him to feel amazing - it's his wedding day too. Obviously he has no say in what I'm wearing so why should I choose his?

Am I odd for feeling like that?

Yes, because he asked me to.

I didn't go with mine either. We talked about colour beforehand so we knew what colour it was going to be but he went with his best man and I won't see it until the day.

I will be doing - only because 6 weeks to go he still hasn't been near a shop so I will physically have to drag him to one!!

Yep, I went, but like the others it's because he wanted me there with him.

I'll be going, because he trusts my opinion but also because I'm the one that has 'styled' the day so I don't want him going off on a tangent!

That said we did discuss what he wanted to wear at the start of the planning

I think I had it in my head that it had to aost be 'secret' like mine? Why this is I don't know and I realise it sounds a bit daft. Ah well, I trust his judgement. Mostly.

I won't be going - I'd like it to be a surprise as my dress is a surprise to him and he'd rather make his own decision. I've suggested he take his best man so they can have some man time.

Yes, because he went on his own, twice, and came home disheartened that he couldn't find anything suitable that he liked. I said I was sure M&S would have something, and he said he'd looked there but "they didn't have anything". I went to M&S with him and pulled out a suit that I thought was great, and he loved it, saying he must have missed it first time. He'd obviously done a man-look!

I didn't see my Husbands suit until the day so it's not odd to me

Yes, for 2 reasons; he asked me and because he puts clothes together in a way that really shouldn't be allowed. His favourite smart attire is a brown suit, red and white striped shirt with his regimental tie, perfect for any occasion but not the wedding!

Yep I went with my OH - I needed to make sure he wasn't going to order the white suit and red bow tie he kept on joking about.

Glad I went because we both came out the shop so excited, first time it had really hit home for him.

No, I don't want to see his suit until the day, when I walk down the aisle. ❤️

A mixed bag of responses then. I can see the plus sides to both ways of doing things but I'm quite looking forward to seeing him in it on the day. Well, so long as he hasn't bought a Liverpool kit or the like...

I told him to get his own but he wanted us to choose it, so we did. The ushers were having something different to him and we all went along together, me and the 4 lads. Again, I wasn't bothered about going but my son was one of the party needing a suit so they seemed to think it was sensible for me to go.

I will probably be going because it's unlikely that all of the groomsmen will be able to go together as they are scattered around the country. He keeps threatening to get a top hat and put a rabbit in it because our youngest dd thinks that he is going to do magic when he wears a suit!

My OH said he didn't want me to go or know what he's chosen. I know the colour & that's it. The rest will be a surprise! The control freak in me doesn't like this lol but I do think it's lovely that I will get a surprise as well as him on the day Smiley smile

No, he's very particular about his clothes and knew exactly what he wanted. It wasn't a surprise for me though, I saw it in advance.

OH has told me I am not allowed to come with him, to be honest he won't be seeing my dress so who am I to choose his outfit? I trust his BM to not allow him to have something wild. OH has a colour swatch so when he goes he will be able to go with that. Never know he might change his mind and what me go and 'hold his hand'.

WSS. He doesn't want me to know. He said if he has to wait and see what I'm wearing then I have to wait and see what he's wearing. Seems fair enough to me!

Exactly this! We've not got to that point yet and haven't discussed it really. I'll go with him if he asks but I've already warned my brother in law that I may have to ask him to go along to just to make sure that he gets something that looks good and doesn't hang off him. My OHs dress sense has definitely improved since the first time I met him (when he was wearing a major double denim disaster!) but he doesn't always dress for the occasion and I'm not sure that I would trust him to go on his own!

I always think my H2B is rather stylish and always well-presented. However, he started looking at waistcoats and cravats and saying "oh, I like the gold one - oooo the green one is nice". Yes darling, they may be nice but they don't match the colour scheme. "The gold would be nice with a brown suit." - Why on earth he decided he liked browns suits on this occasion is beyond me. Thankfully he got rather excited when he spotted that Moss are now hiring Ted Baker suits in a much more acceptable grey. He is now aware that, much as he loves the green waistcoat it's not happening. I still haven't managed to convince him the non-swirly waistcoat in the same fabric as the suit is much nicer but at least he knows the exact shade of pink he needs.

We went together to look at suits, but only because my OH asked me to and wanted my opinion. In reality he made the final decision, after we looked at things together. Luckily we have quite similar taste! When the actual suits got delivered I didn't see him in it until I walked up the aisle though so I still got the effect of seeing him in the full outfit all together for the first time!

My H didn't wear a suit, but I chose what he wore. I bought part of his outfit without him, and only took him to get trousers as he needed to try them on.
