Did you know...

Jumbly Girl, 13 April, 2010 at 13:37 Posted on Planning 0 10

...when you chose your wedding ring that it was the perfect ring? People talk about finding 'the one' when it comes to dresses, but I was just wondering if this was the case with rings. I'm finding it so hard to choose as I know this is the one thing that I am going to wear forever and I end up focusing on whether it's just a little too wide or a little to skinny and I have a feeling I'm over-analysing things. My ER is fabulous and I just want to find the perfect band to compliment it. Anyone else having this problem?

Hey JG. I had seen a couple of rings I liked and had tried loads but I wasn't in love with any particular one.

I decided to get mine made, so told the jeweller what I fancied and what I liked and didn't like about the ones I had seen and he made me 'the perfect one'! I love it! I've actually seen one since in a shop that is very very close to what I had made, but I hadn't seen it at the time and mine ring now fits with my e ring perfectly, so was very pleased.

What sort of thing have you seen?

I knew as soon as i put it on that was the one i wanted that's why i've brought it so early.

The little diamonds in it match my ER perfectly almost like they were made to match.

I know exactly what I'm going to have! I want a plain platinum band the same width as the band on my engagement ring. I've tried one on and they sit perfectly together. I have quite a big stone in my engagement ring so want a plain band to complement it. I might have something engraved on the inside.

I've always thought that your engagement ring and eternity ring ought to be the blingy ones and the wedding band more simple to remind you of the very simple but important promise you make on the day. I think I'm quite rare in that approach now as lots of people tend to go for bands with stones or other detail in them.

Hi, I would say you do find one that makes you smile, not quite as much as the dress but nearly! Mine just really suits my engagement ring and fits perfectly around it. Best places are all the boutiquey jewelry stores especially ones where the rings are made to order. Mine will be bespoke white gold with diamonds and its only coting £400.

    Happy hunting xx

    Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

I still try mine on and wonder... I think it's partly that I'm used to seeing my engagement ring on it's own. D thinks my wedding ring is perfect for my engagment ring.

I only wanted a traditional plain wedding band and went for a 3mm heavy weight one. I was worried the lighter/thiner one didn't match my heavy weight engagement ring but now I worry it's heavier than my engagement ring! ?

Strange, I went for the heavier weight ring and D went for the lighter weight one. They're both plain white gold bands so they match ?

I'm with you cricket bride. I want something very simple to match my ER which is beautiful but simple. It was a family ring from OH's grandmother, so very special indeed. I'm not a blingy person at all, so a plain gold band, perhaps a wishbone to fit round my ER. Will let you know once we've been shopping!

I thought I always wanted diamonds on my WR but when I saw them with my ER they just didn't go. My ER is quite blingy! So I went for a plain heavy weight White gold band! They sit really well together! I so badly want to wear it now! x

Hi ladies! Thanks for all of your advice. I don't want a blingy ring and am happy with a plain platinum bands, but even the ones I've tried just seem to detract from my lovely ER. I've tried a super skinny 2mm one, but it wasn't has heavy as my ER so it looked like my finger was thinner at the bottom than in the middle. Then I tried a 2.5mm one which is the same thickness as my ER, and it didn't have the same thin-at-the-bottom problem as the 2mm one, but I just think it looks a bit too clumpy. Gee - I don't think I'll ever be satisfied. Jumbly Boy and I travelled around a million shops over the last few weeks and nobody does a heavy 2mm platinum band so I think I'll probably settle for the 2.5mm band. But Jumbly Boy isn't happy with the thought of me 'settling' for anything....

Cricket Bride - I'm the same as you, I just wanted a really plain platinum band to go with my ER. Didn't want any diamonds on the band as it wouldn't feel like a traditional wedding band to me if it did.

Jumbly Girl - I ummed and ahhed for ages between the 2mm and 2.5mm, kept changing my mind but I think I went for the 2.5mm.
