Did you know...Catholic wedding related

lamby, 11 August, 2010 at 20:10 Posted on Planning 0 8

That 'I now pronounce you ...you may kiss the bride' is NOT part of the Catholic marriage service??

Okay, me and OH can't help it if we were brought up on a diet of cheesy Hollywood films but we've practised our kiss and everything and just really want to hear those words on our wedding day!

I sent a very sheepish email to our Priest who is going to add it - he said it's not a problem but I'm still a bit embarrassed now about asking (it didn't help that I'd asked him the month before if we could say I Do instead of I will - again, blame ABBA and America!)

Anyway he's made the changes, nice man that he is - I can't help feeling slightly guilty about it (the Catholic in me) but I'm sure he wants us to have the day we want, and the changes (hopefully) don't make it any less Catholic! Just thought I'd let anyone relevant know in case you are also a bit of an old fashioned wedding dreamer and would want this too!

Ours is a Protestant wedding and it isn't actually a traditional part of the service for us either!

Our minister said he wouldn't say it. ☹️ So I just said 'That's fine, we won't wait to be told'. ?

I have no idea how the Turkish ceremony goes but I'll sure as hell be giving my H (ooo!) a big kiss when we get the thumbs up!

Yep, it is not part of the CoE service either!

I'm not too fussed, but H2B is a little disappointed, he is a massive fan of cheesy films.

Aww mine too - bless them. It's weird though isn't it? It must be American. My Priest said it was a CoE thing and I was feeling all bad like we were trying to change the Catholic service to a CoE one but that obviously isn't the case! It's the same with I Do - I thought that was CoE but they are I Will as well aren't they!

I think there are both in our service, but the vows bit is def "I will". Although, my OH is called Will, and is threatening to say "I'm Will" instead. I'm so scared he is going to do it by accident on the day!
