Did you stick with the venues colour scheme or just ignore it and use your own?

missk1989, 15 September, 2013 at 18:28 Posted on Planning 0 10

My chosen venue is a very luxurious purple colour but we had already chosen aqua blue as our colour scheme. The venue has floor length curtains and chairs and drapes in purple and looks nice. Would you just go with this as your colour scheme or chose your colour to go alongside the venues decoration?

    Hi,

I knew I definitely wanted my colour to be pink. I walked into one venue and it was very red! I mean red curtains, red carpet, red chairs. Red everything! Straight away it put me off. Depends if you mind or not. I can't even stand my finger nails and toe nails to be painted a different colours. No way I could of coped with that! Haha

I've never considered the venues decor in any of my planning, I couldn't even tell you what the colours are in the room other than the table linens will be ivory. I don't think that it matters; most guests will be focused on the table infront of them and at your table if you're having speeches. Go with what you want ?

This is not very constructive but we didn't pick anything like a colour scheme until we knew where we were getting married. I don't really get the idea of deciding a theme before you identify one of the key elements in bringing that theme together.....

We ended up in a purple/red/pink/dark wood/velvet/Parisien styleeee restaurant. We worked with it, lots of golds/pale pinks/hot pinks/etc. I suggest the same for you - luxurious purple is hard to fight against.

I couldn't disagree more. The decor provides the foundation, the whole feel and tone of the proceedings. And I know how much time you've spent on the way stuff looks - are you being a little disingenuous here, my lovely? Smiley winking

Could you not add a bit of purple to your own decorations and have a purple and aqua colour scheme?

I just had a quick look on pinterest and quite a few pictures come up...

Our venue has very light pink carpet and pale green curtains. This did influence my colour scheme slightly but I didn't pick my colour based on this. As it happens, we're not actually having a colour scheme...the only thing to be the same colour are the sashes on the chairs & they're champagne so fairly neutral. Everything else is just what I/we want without restriction!

As a pp said, aqua & purple go quite well together so def something for you to consider! I wouldn't worry too much about it though as I can't recall noticing the venues colour schemes at weddings I have been to in the past! Smiley smile

    Hello,

I have the same problem, our venue is purple but we want to go for cornflower blue or pink! I think it will work and as previous Hitchers have said I think the guest will be looking at what you have done rather than the decor or the venue.... or so I hope Smiley smile

    Good luck

I would embrace the venue colour. Doesn't mean to say aqua wouldn't work too...as pictures above show. We have accidently ended up with blues, lace and hessian as our theme as it fits well with the venue. Sort of nautical/rustic!

Our venue also has purple tones in the decor. We are also having purple tones for our colour scheme.

Our florist did however say that she finds purple goes with most colours quite well so I think aqua would go lovely.

If in doubt just search the colours together on pinterest.

Edit- I especially love the peacock pinterest photo above! That would be a great theme!

Our venue has hideous green carpets, but they're in the middle of a huge refurb at the moment and the areas that have been changed so far look lovely and very neutral.

We have a black & white colour scheme anyway so anything should look ok with it. We'll have bits of "cadbury" purple to add a bit of colour.

I must admit I was put off several venues (that otherwise seemed perfect) because of heavy, dare I say it dated, decor. Most places we viewed had dominating traditional fabrics draped everywhere, heavy with pattern and detail. As lovely as they looked I was put off as I couldn't imagine how I'd make the venue "mine" for the day (not to mention I wanted brighter Pink's, Turquoises....candy cart colours not vivvid red's, gold's and navy blue's).

The venue we finally decided on has an 'Orangery' which has masses of natural light and it painted pure white, giving us a perfect blank canvas to do what we want with. The rest of the house is beautifully (and eclectically) decorated with heavier (but modern) decor, giving it a quirky edge but having the Orangery as a separate 'unit' gives me (the hope) that it will feel like my own Smiley smile But it did take a long time to find a venue that has that feel to it, and it was important for us to find somewhere that was going to dominate our "vision" of the day.
