Diet Coke

HatTrick, 3 February, 2012 at 14:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 37

So as I'm being good with the whole Slimming World thing I treated myself to a bottle of Diet Coke from the lunch van that comes round. I've never really drank it before, I love the full fat version way too much.

Now, is it always flat or have I just got a dud bottle? It's pretty gross.

    Nah, it's always like that.

The only thing that I drink that I find tastes very similar to the full fat stuff is Sprite Zero.

Agreed. I don't drink diet stuff in general because i like the full fat stuff better, but if i had to choose one, it would be diet pepsi.

I also enjoy the irony of drinking Pepsi from one of the free coke glasses in the shape of a can that were given away with McD's meals a wee while ago.

Yup - can't stand the stuff personally. But I have problems with aspartame - it gives me headaches so diet sodas in general are a no-no for me.

Have you read http://www.sweetpoison.com/ ? A very interesting read...

All diet drinks are free on SW. I've always had cans of Diet Coke in the fridge - am actually addicted to it. Since starting SW though, I've started buying Mr Knees Sprite Zero, Fanta Zero etc instead of his normal OJ. He goes through loads of the stuff!

I'm pretty sure my addiction has contributed towards my teeth being a bit discoloured. Am just about to order the Crest Whitening strips, so once the current multipack of cans in my fridge is finished, I'm not buying any more. Hopefully replacing my cans with a glass of water will also improve my cellulite!

If I drink Diet Coke out of a bottle (which is rare) it is nearly always flat. Drink it out of a can, much more enjoyable. In fact, I am drinking one now, ice cold.

Yes HT, it's normally fizzy. You must have had a dud bottle. Love that sound of the fizz after I pull the ring pull on my first can of the day!

Ah yes, I was looking forward to the familiar Fzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound as I opened the bottle but all I got was a feeble 'fss'. Quite a let down really!

I'll stick with squash and the occassional full fat can of coke as a treat.

Aspartame is vile, it tastes awful and there are some questions around what it does to you but I'd take that website and others like it ^^^ with a BIG fat pinch of salt. She sounds a just like a quack trying to peddle her book and "detox" programme. I'd rather have something that contains natural sugars than sugar-free anything, not just for health reasons but taste too.

I used to hate diet drinks and only drank full fat coke until OH got me onto Coke Zero. I now love the stuff and it doesn't taste as chemically as Diet Coke. However when I have a hangover it has to be full fat as I need the sugar!

Panic over. I have now discovered Coke Zero. I honestly can't tell the difference between that and normal Coke. Yay!

I really like diet coke, and dislike full fat coke as its far too sweet. I have an inbuilt desire not to drink calories anyway though, I'm on a diet so much of the time that drinking calories seems such a waste. Except for alcohol, obvs.

As I have diabetes, any kind of sugar, natural or not,in drinks, is a big problem for me. Aspartame is an absolute godsend. I don't much like fizzy drinks except as mixers, but am very glad that diet lemonade, squash etc exist, not to mention options and highlights. I remember before aspartame came along and diet drinks were all sweetened with saccharine. Now that really was unpleasant.

Sugar in drinks is so very easily and quickly absorbed by the body that it makes your body work overtime to bring blood sugar levels back down. I wouldn't drink sugary drinks even if I didn't have diabetes.

What a lot of people don't realise is the amount of sugar in fruit juice. There's a bit of a myth that fructose is somehow more healthy, but it's still sugar.

I haven't read many of the posts in this thread but I would just like to say I LOVE DIET COKE. I have never liked full fat Coke, and Coke Zero is pushing it. I have on average two cans of diet coke every day; cutting out snacks and junk from my diet has been pretty easy but if I have to go a day without diet coke, (especially a work day) then someone may die. Pretty sad, but Diet Coke to me is like tea to a tea-lover, its part of life! Saddo leaving.

I don't think the issue with me is that I like Diet Coke, it's the fact I like a good slug of Jack Daniels in it....
