Digital camera?

mhthegoblin, 14 July, 2010 at 19:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Hi,

I'm after a digital camera. Doesn't have to be too special beyond a) a high resolution (12MP minimum) and b) reliable and likely to last a while. I'm looking into this - http://ubuyhardware.com/p~p-1848567000~b-402~Olympus-Stylus-Tough-8010-14-Megapixel-Digital-Camera---Silver.aspx - do you guys think it'd be appropriate? Any suggestions of an alternative?

Thanks in advance!

I think when I was getting mine they advised again Olympus's because the batteries were more expensive. I had an olympus click n shoot when I was a kid and it was fine though.

I got this one in Marhc http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-PowerShot-SX200-Digital-Camera/dp/B001T9NGYS/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1279212651&sr=8-13

I haven't done anything overly technical with it yet, but I am very happy with the picture quality. The man in jessops suggested to get either canon or nikon.

Amazon has a lot of reviews for each camera so it's worth looking on there.

I have an Olympus tough but an earlier version than that - that one looks higher spec than mine. I have to say I've had better images from other cameras (although mine is only something like 8 MPs) but I also have a Nikon D3000 DSLR so it's not a big deal. What I really love about the Olympus is how robust it is. I have 2 young kids and the abuse and throwing about this camera has taken when my 4 year old gets hold of it is something else! You can use it underwater which if you look at how expensive waterproof housing for cameras is makes it fab value for money. We are just back from holiday and we have taken it to the pool, the beach, everywhere and it has survived it all. It has even been posted to us just in a Jiffy bag when Mr R left it somewhere and survived that too! For me that is the huge advantage of this camera. as for batteries etc standard olympus ones are expensive but then so are standard Nikon ones (no idea about Canon) but you can get ones made by other companies that work just as well. I bought a replacement battery for the Olympus for £6. HTH

Make sure you get a camera with a proper battery not the AA kind, as it will last far longer - you can buy replacements and spares on ebay for a fiver for a compatible one.

We have an olympus and love it!
