digital tv recorders, i'm confused!

kylieanne, 27 September, 2009 at 22:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

Our tv is already digital and has freeview built in, but is it possible to put connect a digital tv recorder to it so that we can record, or can you only use those on non digital tvs? What type of box would we need? Is it called freeview plus? I want to be able to record tv without having to have sky+

I was wondering the same thing. I was considering sky+, but maybe freeview plus is another option. One of my friends has a freeview plus box, but their tv is not digital.

You just need a PVR. Like a Humax or a Topfield box, these all come under PVR.

Can use with digital or non-digital. Most of the boxes have 2 tuners in - so with a non-digital tv you could record 2 things at once, and then watch channels 1-5 but not another freeview one. If you use with a digital tv you've got 3 tuners (2 in the box, 1 in the tv) so you could record 2 things at once and watch any other channel. Depends if you really want to use that much! We have a Topfield PVR with a non-digital tv and it does fine.

You need a PVR or Hard Disc Recorder which will have another (at least 1) digital tuner inside it. That allows you to watch one digital channel whilst recording another
