Dinner thread

SophieM, 18 November, 2008 at 16:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 36

Yay - I am so excited about our supper tonight (also starving as all I've had to eat today is healthy soup, fruit and bread and I did an 8km run).

We're having chicken, mushroom and leek pie, with sweet potato and pumpkin mash and steamed savoy cabbage.

What's everyone else having?

I love pie, you dinner sounds delicious!

We're having spicy carrot soup I made for Sunday as a starter but we thought we'd be too full. We were then meant to have it last night but I forgot to buy bread so ended up with a chinese. So it's definitely being eaten tonight. uuummmm..not.

I did 56 mins on the treadmill today (and only had a bagel for lunch afterwards) so my dinner will be a yummy lemon sole fillet with oven chips and peas. I'm on a health kick! ?

    ? poor, starving mrs winkle.

It's a recipe she posted 2 years ago, that i saved:

    Mrs W's pasta bake

Get some lovely organic minced beef, brown it off.
Add a clove of garlic, crushed.
    Add chopped basil and thyme.
Add a healthy slosh of red wine.
    Let the wine reduce.
Add some passata or tomato puree.
Add a tin of chopped tomatoes.
Whilst that simmers, cook some wholewheat pasta.
Preheat the owvn @ gas mask 6.
Drain the pasta and mix into the meat.
    Slop into a dish.
Top with thinly sliced mozzarealla and chopped mixed herbs.
    Cook for about 30 minutes.
    Eat.

Mrs W's pasta bake sounds lush. I probably wouldn't be able to resist throwing some veg in it though. And Bacon. I never know when to stop ?

Tonight we're having Cajun Blackened Salmon and rice. And Mr M and Junior will be having asparagus with their's too.

No, not really - I'm planning to more or less do this

    http://www.riverford.co.uk/recipes/recipe.php?catid=3&recipeid=72

except using creme fraiche, adding mushrooms and probably a carrot as well, and the chicken is left-over roast so already cooked.

Will let you know how it turns out!

I'm having a tuna pasta bake. I wanted a tuna quiche which I make from scratch because I'm craving the lovely buttery flakey pastry but Mr R says he doesn't fancy it and tonight its his turn to choose ☹️

Recipes like the Riverford one make me giggle, it always has to be Riverford double cream or Sainsbury's pasta as if no other would do.

I've been craving chicken pie since seeing this recipe - https://www.itv.com/hub/categories - on tv earlier. It has puff pastry on top and bottom and looks lush. It would be minus the odd looking peas and asapargus though!

    We're a bit mother-hubbard like tonight.

I had beans on toast with a couple of fried eggs on top. Followed by asda Jelly beans which I found.

Not ideal, but it was lovely.
