Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells

weejc, 27 June, 2008 at 13:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

According to The Week, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has banned the word brainstorming from use in its meetings in case it offends epileptics and the mentally unstable. They have been asked to use the term "thought showers" instead.

Would people really be offended by "brainstorming"?

Ah, it seems the original story was in The Sun. Tunbridge Wells council website says:

This story has been wildly exaggerated. We haven't put a policy in place that prevents the use of the term brainstorming nor have we issued any instruction that suggests staff should not use it. We believe the comment came from a training session on diversity and equality issues and when this was raised as an issue it was suggested that 'thought shower' may be better words to use. We have since learnt that this is not in fact the case and that the national body that represents those with epilepsy have clarified this and we will be sure that this will be communicated from now on.’

I take it all back, sorry!

I read that a few weeks ago. Didn't realise it was TW, thought it was America.
