dishwashers and fridge freezers

Ohwhatatuesday, 15 June, 2014 at 19:41 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 17

Does anyone have any good recommendations for either? I haven't bought them before so I'm not sure what we're looking for/I'm a bit clueless. Does anyone have any idea of good makes or good features I should be on the look out for?

Thank you!

Samsung are very good and reliable. Do really nice fridge freezers, some with a 10 year guarantee. If you have a good budget then Miele do the best dishwashers.

We had Bosch appliances in our old house and they never went wrong so I'd happy buy Bosch again.

If I was buying either a dishwasher or fridge-freezer now I'd definitely look at the energy rating when choosing.

For a dishwasher, I'd also look for one that has a variety of programs including a quick wash. The one in our new house has a few programs but the main program takes something stupid like 2 hours and 50 minutes to complete! You can also get some now where you can fold down the prongs in the trays to make them a bit more flexible when you fill them.

For a fridge-freezer, I would look for one where the door was hinged on the 'right' side (or one where I could reverse it). Ours has an indicator inside which tells you when it is running at the right temperature, which is handy. if I could have a new one, I'd love one with an ice dispenser as I always forget to fill up the ice cube tray.

My mum swears by Bosch. We currently have a LEC fridge (just because it was cheap and its still working really well 6 years later!) and a Bosch dishwasher but no where to put it at the moment!!

If you are on a water meter, you might want to look at consumption and option to do half wash/quick loads.

Fridges with ice cube/water dispensers need to be plumbed in so check you can do this where you are planning to put them.

Can't help with the dishwasher as we don't have one, but when I was looking for a fridge my priorities were: high energy efficiency rating, reversible door (can be hung either side), decent size fruit and veg drawers (some are titchy) and glass shelves - so much easier to clean up any spills etc with glass shelves!

Edited to add - I think ours is Bosch made too, it's been excellent.

We haven't got a dishwasher but our fridge freezer is Samsung. We got it in a bank holiday sale in Currys and paid about £300 for it. It's silver and massive, about my only consideration if I'm honest!

Measure up first Smiley laugh I had my heart set on a Smeg '50 fridge/freezer and picked my whole kitchen colours around it from paint to handles - alas the gap was too small (they have very deep doors)...

But on to recommendations i'd really recommend Smeg, we have both fridge freezer (went for a different style) and dishwasher from them. Look at Boots appliances for great discounts (they often price match) and you get advantage card points! Win win!

We are happy with our Indesit fridge freezer. Lots of room inside and good sized compartments. I shall keep an eye on this thread as we are thinking of getting a dishwasher when we get the kitchen done.

I have a Samsung fridge/freezer, one with a non plumbed water dispenser, and I love it ! It is huge inside, has really good interior lights so you can see everything, I really like the convenience of the water dispenser and it has a really funky ice tray thingy that you fill up then when it is frozen you twist it and the cubes all fall out in to a drawer underneath.

My dishwasher is Kenwood, I was limited for choice as I wanted a slimline and stainless steel, but I have not had any problems with it so far and it washes well.

I have also heard good things about Bosch

Thanks everyone! Lots of things I didn't think of so really useful. The fridge freezer is ordered - it's a Samsung with a great energy rating, door can go either side and a twisty ice tray. It looks great and lots of room. Still hunting for a dishwasher but that's not so urgent so we've got a bit more time, I'll definitely look for one with different programmes though

I hate our appliances as they came with the house (integrated) so we're quite limited in choice. All are hotpoint and been nothing but trouble

Niche - if it isn't plumbed, where does the water come from?

I love our massive American style Samsung fridge/freezer, but it's plumbed in and our units were fitted around it so I fear we'll have to leave it if and when we eventually manage to sell.

I have a Candy integrated dishwasher which I would not recommend. It keeps conking out!

It has a tank in the door that you fill up manually that contains a Brita filter. It is a pain if someone (read the kids !) uses the last bit and doesn't fill it but generally ours is full all the time.
