DIY bouquets

2b_MrsB, 30 April, 2012 at 16:30 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi everyone,

For those who have made/are making their own silk/foam flower bouquets.

How did it compare price wise to having them made professional or having fresh flowers?

Thanks in advance

L x

It's not silk or foam flowers, but I DIYed this fabric bouquet, and I can't resist a flash! They sell on etsy for anywhere between $90 and 300 US, but all in all this took me about 2-3 hours and materials only cost me about £5-10.

    Venart,

I've seen your other bouquet in other posts and its lovely, but I'm a novice so not brave enough to attempt something like that, silk flowers already have their shape, so hoping my skills will stretch to arranging them lol.

My bouquet was made by my mum and a family friend. As my dad had his own business at the time, this qualified them to go to a wholesaler and get a discounted price on the flowers (I think it was somewhere like Macro). This worked out much cheaper than paying someone to do them, both mum and the family friend were experienced flower arrangers so I did trust them to make a good job, and they did

This is my table centres but actually my flowers will be very similar. My mum is doing all the arrangements and is amazing at it. We went to a wholesaler and we got all the flowers for about £200. We got them cheaper than you would buying from say Hobbycraft as my mum has a merchant card. This was two full shopping trolleys of flowers and included all oasis and trays we'd need. We got enough for my flowers, 5 bridesmaids, 20 buttonholes / corsages, 10 table centres and 1 top table arrangement.

Im really pleased with how this looks and am so glad I went with silk.

My sister has real and it cost about the same amount but for half the quantity flowers (she hadChristmas decorations instead)

Aww, 2b_MrsB, you might be selling yourself short. If you get a hold of silk or foam flowers as single stems, though, you can find youtube videos and tutorials on sites like Martha Stewart Weddings that show you how to arrange single stems into a beautiful bouquet. They're usually for fresh flowers, but I think it should be fine with fake ones, too!

I've seen a few video tutorials online and that is what has given me the incentive to have a go, it's not so much about selling myself short, just don't want to waste money on something that I might end up having to get done professionally.
