DIY invitations flash

bamboo, 26 May, 2014 at 23:45 Posted on Planning 0 18

I'm using a pearlescent heavy card stock to make pocketfold invites and was initially using double-sided tape. Thought it worked well until I woke up and found that everything had come unstuck. I was using the double-sided tape to glue a bow onto a ribbon, lace onto the card and for sticking the pocketfold flap down to hold the inserts.

Does anyone know of any brands of glue or double-sided tape which is really good at sticking everything together? I've tried the pva glue you find at schools which sticks them together but it's pretty messy.

Hope any diyers can help me out here. Thanks.

Edit: thought I would flash everyone the finished product on the same thread

If you go in craft shoos, there is a type of double-sided tape that has red backing and is really strong. For the bows, I would use silicone hlue as its stronger, dries clear and you can direct it easily using a cocktail stick. For the lace, if there is a place you can hide the join then use magic tape. If not, then try the silicone glue again x

Hi this might be the one your using already? But I used a roll on glue I got from hobbycraft it looks like a tipex mouse but its glue and it comes in temporary or permanent, just be sure to get the permanent. Good luck.

I was going to say exactly what BJ said (can you tell we are both card makers!?).

When I'm doingiInvitaions that have a bow going onto ribbon or lace I usually sew it! It doesn't take a long time to just put a stitch through the back, and it's secure, without the need for messy glue which can bleed onto ribbon/lace and not stick very well.

Hope that helps, and be sure to flash!

We used, well my MOH used little dots that peel off the backing paper and stick both sides. No mess no bleeding really simple. Cheap too hobby crafts own brand. Good luck.

I just bought some cheap stuff from ebay and it worked great with my pearlescent pocketfolds.

Yeah standard double sided tape doesn't really work with pearlescent card and fabric - like someone else said, you'll need the stronger tape with the red backing (e.g https://www.sparkles-and-stuff.co.uk/6mm-ultra-sticky-craft-tape/). Or if you are going to use glue, pritt stick tends to be better. Just press them down really hard too. Good luck!

Very nice - I like the design that you've got running up the side of the inserts.

    Thanks everyone!

Yep, happy with the final result especially when it too so long to get right. Designing everything from scratch took a while too.

    Hi there,

These invites are fabulous and you should be really proud of them :-)

I was wondering if I could ask how many you made and how much it cost you in total?
Working on a budget but also I just love handmade things! xx

    Thanks!

I haven't written down the total price but will look for my invoices to give you a rough idea. Will post when I've got them.

If you don't mind my asking - where do you get all of the materials from? The envelopes etc?

The prices are all for 50 invitations:

The envelopes were from ebay and cost £3.35

The smaller rsvp envelopes were from ebay and cost £2.90

The cards were bought from pdacardandcraft.

For pre-folded card for the main part of the pocketfold £4.20

13 blank cards to make the part that holds the inserts £6.24

60 cards to make the inserts and rsvps £17.28

I've lost the receipts for the lace and ribbon but they weren't very expensive. I bought them from a local fabric store since I was picky with the colours.
