Once I got the final plan, they were really quick. I cut out all the pieces individually first then sat and stuck them together. It took a few attempts initially before I was happy though x

Here's mine. They didn't take too long really once I'd designed them - that was definitely the longest part!

My home-made efforts. Not a very clear pic but the better photos I have you can see the information and I'm not techy enough to blank it out!

Mine were sort-of DIY; I bought a box set with the cards & ribbons in The Works and then printed onto them at home and tied the ribbons on. I also bought some little pearls to stick on separately to add a bit more detail.

And the best thing.... the box of 30 sets (invitations, RSVP cards & save the dates, all with their own envelopes, ribbons & nice pen) only cost £2.99!! The set of pearls (probably about 50 on a sheet) were 99p!

This is mine. I am lucky enough to be a crafter anyway so have the embossing machine and a silhouette cameo to cut everything out (saved about half the time).

I'm not doing STDs but I am putting a little card in each invite (just waiting on our new printer to print them off and them cut them all out) which will have details of our wedding website where people can RSVP online. But I have asked people to send us an RSVP card because I want to keep them and would rather have loads of different ones. I like getting pretty things, lol x

Probably a bit of an obvious question but am hoping for some sneaky tips!

Where people have got different sized pieces of paper (like above - gorgeous by the way!), did you buy smaller paper and somehow print on it, or did you print on A4 and cut the paper? Both of these sound like tricky options!

Neither, you set your printer to print a certain size ?

I set the margins in word to slightly less than the open card size (in my instance the card size was 10in by 7in open so set to 9.75in by 6.5in, this gives 1/4 in gap in from the edge of the insert to the edge of the card)

I then printed and folded each one in half and then cut on a guillotine after working out how much needed cutting (measuring the paper in half and chomping off the difference, so if the paper was 7in wide I cut 2 and 2/4 in)

Sorry, probably not explaining it that well!

    That's really useful Smiley smile

So I either need to buy a better printer or get myself a guillotine!

I've just about finished making a prototype of an idea I saw in a book for DIY invites; not ready to flash yet but if it all goes to plan they'll be fans like the one below, am having purple card though with the information printed on white paper and stuck on.

My main problem is getting all the segments the same shape and size; have a guillotine but it doesn't help with the curved edges, so if anyone has any ideas of how I could get them all the same, maybe with some sort of stamp, that'd be much appreciated!

Are the tops flat? I they then you could buy a corner cutter to chop the corners, that's what I did with my invites. hth

No, they're slightly curved, I did mine much more curved as well! Did try them with flat tops but they didn't look right. Have been scouring internet for hours looking for some way of doing it myself but have now just found that my local college has a paper cutting service so have emailed them for a quote, think it would look so much better if they could just do that bit for me!

Other inserts include a hand drawn map, details on our honeymoon fund and then the envelope is hand written with a wax sealed bunny emblem in purple or green.

Sent our invitations on Saturday and already have 9 RSVPS ?

This is an old thread that I came across when looking for DIY invitation inspiration...I have found it really helpful and thought others might too.

Do any more recent brides want to add any flashes? It would be much appreciated!

Ooh Lorns they look fab! They are JUST the sort of thing I am going for.

Please could you give me some tips?

1 - what did you use to secure the lace - is it stuck on at the back? I so far have a glue gun, double sided tape, glue dots and PVA to trial.

2 - where did you buy the lace from?

3 - how much did professional printing work out at? I have so far just asked one place and they can't print onto the brown kraft paper

Ok.. The lace is secured with a glue gun! Worked a treat, the glue is clear and neat!

The lace was ridiculously expensive from hobby craft, but then Iv just found someone on ebay selling it, Iv just paid £7 for 10 meters which I don't think is bad!

The invitations were basically bought from a shop on ebay 'The Vow Wedding Boutique' I think, for 32 day invites as you see them in the pic with the box inc little tags, £94. It's very expensive but wold have been a lot more if I hadn't had them stripped down. They're so worth it though! X
