DIY invitations - what sort of glue to use?!

Arquard, 16 January, 2011 at 13:08 Posted on Planning 0 22

We're off to Hobbycraft shortly to get more supplies for all our DIY wedding stuff, and I'm in a muddle over what glue to use for the invitations. We'll have an inserty bit to go in the middle of the pocketfold card (would pritt stick hold that or do I need stronger??) and I'm also going to experiment with a length of ribbon to go round the card when it's closed and with a mini printed photo card of me and h2b as an embellishment thingy. Lots of vagueness and "thingies"...

SO! What glue should I use to attach the mini photo to the ribbon? I have PVA glue in, but would that be a bit clumsy for ribbon? Do I need to go right out and get some sort of crafty super glue?

This is all very confusing.

    Hi

I always use the double sided glue that comes in like a mouse shaped dispenser (like they use to dispense tip-ex in strips) it holds well - works well with satin ribbon and paper - is just the right width, really easy to use and doesn't lkeave any lums or bumps. Hobby craft is quite expensive for it though. Wilkinsons does a pack of two for about £2.50 and it's just as good and will do up to about 50 invitations - depending on how much of it you use.

Oh that's very lovely and I like that it's so personal to you. I think it is sweet, I'm sure people will love it. Specially when they see how much effort you've both put into thinking about applies to you and of course your OH's essay!

Does your invite seriously say.. "Gluten free, wheat free, sugar free, taste free" ?

Sammyjay, I have ordered A6 pocketfolds from PDA and they actually come as a three-fold thing. this is the pic my brother has drawn up to get his designs from the one we gave him. there is a main section, an pocket bit for inserts and then the front is triangular shaped, I'm not sure if the way you have mocked your up will fit in the pocketfold??

    (sorry if I've mis-understood)

Lol, yes it really does... H2b's sense of humour. Luckily all our friends and family are very, very used to his old jokes so will pick up on the funny side.

Thanks Kat44. I'd tried to work out the shape of the insidey foldy bit and guessed it would be something like that. The important part was getting the size of the main insert right and getting a vague idea of whether it would actually work or not. I'll have to reassess the smaller inserts when the proper cards arrive

I have to agree with BB I'm afraid on this one, even though friends and family might be used to his jokes, I wouldn't take the chance of having 'taste free' left in there cause it can sound a bit rude to those who may have dietary needs.

I am wheat and lactose intolerant and joke that what i eat is taste free but I'd still not appreciate it if it was written on an invite. Personally, I would play it safe and leave that bit out.

I'm lactose intolerant too but I can't imagine being offended by something like that. Hmm, will have a word with h2b later.

I hadn't even read the text as it was so small. I thought it would be a lovely essay of 'sharing our most important day with us...'. Sounds interesting, may have to read it now and revise 'lovely' thoughts.

H2b is very adamant he doesn't want to use traditional fluffy wedding-y wording. I had written out something very traditional but he really didn't like it and asked if he could take over. I'm quite happy to have him on board with any aspect of it!

I'm actually getting a bit sensitive about people picking it all apart now so I'm going to remove the pictures. Just wanted to update on how the glue advice had worked out, so glad I've done that at least.

I agree with BrideBrat - sorry. and I think its a bit confusing having the important details surrounded by so much chat because they don't stand out as clearly. Why did you decide to do the invitation in this style?

Otherwise, I love it! The outside is really sweet and personal and I love the idea of having a pic of you both on the ribbon. The inside looks great as well - very sci-fi. Did you print it yourself or did someone else?

I'm sorry, i didn't mean to pick apart your invites, I actually like the informal wordiness of them, all apart from that one bit there.

TBH, the main thing is that you and H2B like them as it's your wedding day! ?
