DIY Invite - Help needed please!

DanniB, 15 May, 2009 at 12:20 Posted on Planning 0

Hello,

My mum has very kindly offered to make my wedding stationery and has come up with some mock-ups.

We have decided which one we like, put I need to find a company that will print the 'insert'. Does anybody know how I can find such a company? We were thinking along the lines of a letterpress style, but looing at some websites, seems that they do the whole invite, not just the printed details?

Sorry I can't upload photos at the mo (camera broken), but the invites are flat and look kind of similar to this

Thanks, Danni x

    Hi Danni

Letterpress is a very specialised (and traditional) form of printing - there aren't too many places that do it in the UK anymore but it's much more popular in the US for wedding stationery. Raised printing plates are required for the presses which give a very distinctive and beautiful "impressed" type effect (opposite to embossing). A few printers I can think of are Wren Press and Letterpress of Cirencester but I don't know if they will custom print just the invitation insert part only. Be prepared that letterpress is one of the most costly forms of printing so you may find that by making the invitations this way that they may cost more than by purchasing the entire invitations from one of the aforementioned companies from their own ranges. Letterpress work is mostly printed on thicker than normal cotton board too, which also adds to the cost.

Alternatively perhaps consider another printing method such as thermography which gives a raised effect and is often available at high street printers. Another alternative is to use an online company like Vistaprint for cost effective plain flat digital printing.
