DIY Stationery - how much?

Purple Pixie, 15 February, 2011 at 20:38 Posted on Planning 0 9

I know this is probably a 'how long's a piece of string' question but even a rough idea would help. I'm trying to sort out our budget but have no idea how much to allow for stationery. We will be making everything ourselves but will have printing costs as we've decided we'd like things printing professionally (but thankfully we've found someone very cheap!).

Thanks in advance.

It really does depend on what you want your invite to look like, even down to the colours you choose. We were going to use a royal purple paper but couldn't find one for less than 80p a sheet so we changed our colour a little and got 80sheets for around £4. Our total cost has been around £180 for all stationary inc invites/ order of service, order of day, RSVP's and place cards. We had to buy a stamping kit, paper trimmer, heart gems, ribbon, paper, card etc. It really depends what you want on your invites though and definatly shop around, we found some great bargins on ebay.

Thanks Starlight, that's a good starting point for me.

To do about 50 pocketfold invites with 3 x inserts each (without the printing) we worked it out to be about £125.

Then just the cost of nice card and some embellishments to do menus and placenames, which we found to be about another £20-30 depending which embellishments we picked.

I'm still really on the fence about whether to buy or to make the stationery myself!

I designed our invites using Quark. They're a flat 2-sided DL size with an A4 info sheet. The design work was obviously free, so the only costs were £70 which was the printing, plus £5 for the envelopes and another £5 for the paper for the information sheets which I printed at home. We did 60 invites in total.

I'm just doing our invites now. They're hand decorated cards, the card is waterford 415gsm NOT which is about £3 per sheet and I can get 15 cards out of it so that's 20p per card. It feels really really nice, so much better than all the pre-made blank cards I found! I'm then printing them myself then a friend is hand decorating the front.

It can work out quite cheaply if you're willing to look around and do it all yourself.

I've changed the way the name is printed at the top now but you get the idea!

Hi, it's definitely a 'how long is a piece of string' question! I supply DIY materials as well as doing bespoke work and having a lovely budget range of invitations. It is possible to have a lovely co-ordinated theme running through your stationery at a reasonable cost. If you want to give me a ring or drop me an email to let me know what sort of thing you're looking for I'll be happy to make some suggestions and quote you for good quality materials.

Just been pricing up our stationery - for STD's, Invitations, RSVPs, Menus, Order of Service and placenames I think it will come to around £100 all in. I'm designing most of it myself, apart from the invitations which I'm going use a lovely heart shaped stamp for, so the costs are mostly for ink, card and printing.
