diy vs ordered invitations

donnyette, 27 October, 2013 at 23:06 Posted on Planning 0 9

Im nearing the time of sending out STD cards to be followed in a few months by invitations. We need to keep costs to a minimum so are unsure whether I should do some diy and make them myself or if it is best to order them?

I think im ok at crafting stuff myself but worry about them looking on the cheap side.

Any advice is appreciated and any links to diy sites or a company that does nice low budget invitations etc would be really helpful.

Thanks ladies x

I have the same dilemma until I spoke to my MOH and she offered to design the card for me. We have gone to Hobby Craft to see if I'm creative enough to make my own cards but it turns out to be more expensive than to design our own & get it printed online. Plus I don't have the time (or patience) to make my own card.

It depends on what kind of style you're after because the more detailed a card is, the more you may need to fork out. Maybe ebay offers cheaper bits and bobs than Hobby Craft.

We've sent STDs via email to avoid any costs with printing!

I've designed them on Photoshop and out they went!

OH's extended family were told by phone by his mum, but we thought was better saving the money to spend it somewhere else on the wedding Smiley winking

I was in the same predicament. We're using PDA Craft (recommendation through this site). Originally we were going to buy the card through them and print ourselves, but now we're getting them to do the printing as well (I designed the front) as it just seems like a great deal and more importantly hassle free! We're then doing our own inset wording - regular A4 printer paper which we'll cut down to size and use embroidery silk to secure the pages.

Good luck with the invites whatever you choose!! x

I'm hoping to diy mine as well but having problems with the printing. I don't need many done but it seems the printing is going to be increasing the price a lot.

I was going to order from PDA Craft and get them to print them but I can't justiify £20 to print 4 pages...

I might have to consider buying them instead.

I am buying ours - I have neither the skill nor the inclination for DIY. Plus often it isn't the cheap option once you have bought materials etc, particularly if you are incompetent like me and keep messing them up. ?

Light in the Box do wedding invitations, as do Paperchase, Scribbler, Moonpig. We are getting ours from www.foldedpaperdesigns.com

Friends of ours had a v cool London wedding and sent handwritten London postcards for their invitations, it was fab!

I'm trying to experiment with invite ideas to see if I can come up with something simple that I can do myself that still looks good.

For the STD, I chose a picture of the two of us together that I liked, then added the text I wanted (save the date, the date of the wedding) on a free photo editing program. I then opened a new account with Photobox, which gives you some free prints when you register - then used the free prints to get my STDS, so they cost me about £2 for the P&P (then envelopes and stamps to post then to people)

    Hiya.

If you are interested in something in the middle then I offer DIY kits on all of my designs or we can come up with a design together and I can make up the kit for you.
