DIY wedding topper project [completed - flash on page 2]

LeedsBride, 5 September, 2012 at 22:04 Posted on Planning 0 38

I've always loved making things, so I thought I would try to make my own wedding toppers for our small cutting cake which will be on top of a cupcake tower. I've started making a mini-me first, and she is about 4-5 cm tall. I'll be adding flowers as some point, but I'm not sure wether to just keep it simple or add more things like arms and any more detail.

I'll keep updating this post with how they are going, and she is still pretty rough at the moment but what do you think so far?

Your mini-me looks amazing so far. Much better finish than the ones I recieved & paid alot for! It will look better with the flowers & a basic face, but as you said, no need to go overboard. Well done.

    Thank you ?

Yeah I'll probably just add flowers and maybe just some little eyes, but not the full face. I didn't want to add too much detail to my dress either as didn't want to give anything away to the H2B ?

Great start, looking forward to seeing them progress.

Thanks for the feedback ? I think I will photoshop some arms on to see what it looks like. I guess they would help to support the flowers as well ?

Looks good! My business started with me making my own toppers for my wedding ?

The only thing I would say is that the skin around the chest and back seems to come further out than the white of the dress?

Kharv we all have overhang- or I do anyway ? These are really stunning. I'd have paid you to make me some if you were about last year!

Lol! and thank you ? I'm just working on the flowers at the moment. They won't be perfect but they'll be a nice keepsake I think ? Will need to start on a mini H2B soon!

Well here she is at the moment with arms, flowers and eyes. I was going to blend the arms in but think it looks quite cute like this ? I've tried to smooth out some of the overhang as well. She is only tiny so hopefully people wont be looking at her too closely to notice the imperfections.

That's perfect the main thing is to know when to stop adding details. I think if you wanted to try to add any more I would make a 2nd one so that this one stays perfect.

Thank you ? I agree she doesn't need any more details, so I'll keep her like this. Next challenge will be the H2B ?

Wow, she looks very cute ?

Did you find it fairly easy to use the flimo clay? I am considering making our cake toppers, but animals rather than little people

When I saw your flashes earlier I meant to ask about whether you were going to be on the top of the cake by yourself! Good to see you now have a groom!

They look great! Well done Smiley smile
