DJ / Band recommendations?

Kat44, 15 October, 2010 at 12:47 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations for any DJs/ bands they have used previously in the Warwickshire / West Midlands areas please?

Also, what is an average price for a wedding? I was quoted £600 for one and wondered whether that was the norm or a rip off?!

thank you ?

Kat

(apologies for duplicating, I have posted this in Just Married and Wedding Planning, but not sure which one it belongs in best!!)

Not in the area but £600 divided by 5 members for 3 hours work each works out at £40 an hour per member - minus travel costs, maintenance of equipment, website, etc etc.

So altogether, that's not necessarily an unreasonable.

Like most things, you generally pay for what you get... the Bootleg Beatles charge £12,000 for an evening by the way!

    Hi

I agree with AJ above - I suspect though that your £600 was probably a 3-piece, am I right? That's about right for a three-piece and a little cheap for a 5-piece. You do indeed get what you pay for.

Usually reckon on something like £170-200 per player for the night. It may be more if you need them for longer.

    hope this helps

Ps...AJDown - If I could make my working day 3 hours I'd be absolutely delighted! Most of ours are 10-12 hours per wedding if you include travelling, setups, waiting around and packing down and of course playing.

£600 was actually the quote for just a DJ, not a band ?

A good wedding DJ ....between £300 and £800. As already said.....you do get what you pay for. Also they do a lot more than just turn up and press play. Tony touched on a few hidden things there.....but also add into the mix that they will meet up with you to discuss your evening (travel time +costs), will source the music you want ( which can be very time consuming) ....there's lots more we do but we all offer slightly different things.

I help run two organisations. For wedding specialists visit https://www.weddingdja.co.uk/ or for a general party DJ visit https://partydjdisco.co.uk/

    PS...Hi Tony....hows it going....thought you'd jumped ship!

    Hello!

I know a great band but obvioulsy cant advertise on here. Drop me an email and I will let you have the details. Used them myself in the West Midlands. I know they have different ways of going out which was better for my budget. Three peice or four piece and a female vocalist was offered. (not a fan of female fronted bands myself)

To be honest thats a alright quote for a DJ but this band does DJ style music which which was in with the quote and was great. So best of both worlds.

£600 for a band would be quite cheap. We found bands for this money were more used to playing pub gigs and not what was wanted for the wedding.

    Hope you see this!!

I struggled on the DJ / band decision. I really wanted a band - but could not afford one. I opted for a DJ but found a cheap percussionist / bongo player to accompany the DJ and it was much cheaper than a band... but still brought a live feeling to the night. I found him on Gumtree. May be an idea?

    Good luck!

    Hi Kat

I went to a summer ball in Warwickshire recently that had a good band playing. Are we not allowed to put details on the forum? No idea on price I'm afraid but I danced all night! x
