do i choose or bridesmaid?

pink & glitz, 27 April, 2014 at 13:55 Posted on Planning 0 12

I am going shopping soon to get a dress for my bridesmaid, I have decided on the colour so now it's a case of getting the right style.

Did you tell your bridesmaid how to wear her hair for the wedding day?

If you were buying accessories such as hair comb, bracelets, would you choose these?

I am not sure if it's up to me or bridesmaid to decide! X

Personally, I am leaving it to my bridesmaids to decide. They are even picking their own outfits (with a little guidance from me lol), but because they are completely different shapes and sizes, I want to embrace that, so they wont be wearing exactly the same thing. As for their hair and accessories, they have free rein! I really cannot wait to see my girls on our wedding day :-)

Like you I chose the colour but let the girls decide on the style. They all have different but complimentary dresses by same designer - so only really the neckline is different. I'm leaving hair and accessories entirely up to them. My mum is paying for hairdresser but I'm not dictating style. With only one bridesmaid I'd just let her pick what she wants accessories wise - she may already have things which will be very suitable.

I have 1 bridesmaid too which makes things easier - I think when we go shopping we can decide together on the dress, accessories etc......x

I'm going to tell my bridesmaids the "look" I'm after and my budget, then let them select everything including the dresses themselves. I imagine we'll go on a bit of a shopping spree, so I'll be there for that, but hair, makeup etc will all be up to them.

I just went bridesmaid dress shopping and let my girls choose their dresses and accessories. I'm also letting them choose their hair style. I paid for the dresses - we chose ones they could wear again and I'll be paying for their hair. I was really laid back about it to the point where they wanted me to boss them around. Our wedding is quite relaxed - we have a pastels theme but I don't want anything matchy matchy. I don't think there is a typical way to go about who chooses what, I just figured that as they are my best mates, I wanted them to love what they were wearing and feel comfortable.

I'm only having two bridesmaids and we are going dress shopping in June. They keep saying to me that they will wear whatever I say but I want them to have a say and to be comfortable. Nothing worse than bridesmaids who clearly hate what they are wearing! I have already bought flowers for them to wear in their hair and hope they will have up dos but if they are not comfy about it then I'm open to what they want.

I chose the dress, but I'm happy for them to have hair, shoes etc how they want it. I'll probably be buying them a necklace as a gift, but other jewellery will be up to them.

It's been a collaborative process really - I run all sorts of things past them for comments so couldn't have even thought about dictating, much like most of the previous posters.

In fact, we fixed the wedding colour by going shopping for BM dresses - we knew we all wanted "jewel" colours, something quite dark but vibrant enough to look good in winter wedding pics, but tried on blues, purples, greens, reds, until we found a combination of colour and style that looked good on all 3 girls, and that's how we ended up with aubergine!

Then from there, we discussed how hair might compliment - again bearing in mind the season - and the girls came up with the idea of side buns, which I'm delighted with, and we will probably get some sort of hair clip with pearls or diamanté but the search is ongoing. And my sis (and chief bm) is making pearl bracelets.

But then I'm lucky that the girls and I have similar taste, and have been working on this since July last year!

I dont think anyone should 'tell' anyone, BM or otherwise how to wear their hair. If you've chosen your BM, I assume they are good, close friends & know what 'style' you're after. Surely its the fact that they are helping you through the planning & are beside you on the day that matters, not how they are wearing their hair.

For clarification, I am giving my MOH free reign as to what dress we get her. She's the one wearing it all day, not me. Yes I will go shopping with her & give my opinion but providing she's there to support me & keep me sane & from becoming a Bridezilla, that's what matters.

As I paid for their hair to be done and for their accessories, they didn't really get a say. I told them in advance that they'd be having a French twist type thing and they were fine with it.

Hi, I didn't tell my bridesmaids how to have their hair, I wanted them to have it up, but didn't mind how. However, the hairdresser gave them a style to compliment mine Smiley smile

I'm giving the bridesmaids their dresses, but leaving hair, make up, shoes etc up to them. They are so totally different looking that it doesn't really matter! One is 6ft tall, size 22 with short dark hair, the other is 5ft 4, size 6 with long red hair so they are just not going to match other than the dresses!
