Do photographers/videoman, get in the way

gemm26, 19 April, 2008 at 17:13 Posted on Planning 0 7

While you are getting ready in the morning!
I think I am panicing and have too much time on my hands today but I live in a 2 up 2 down house, and on the morning of the wedding I will have me, 5 bridesmaids and my parents here along with the photo and video people! I think we will be falling over each other!
Any one else experience this?

I do a lot of photography at the brides house before the wedding and it's often the case that small houses are packed with bridesmaids, familiy and everyone else! A good photographer will know how to keep out of the way but still get the shots. It does get a little too much when you get video as well!

I didn't really notice mine at all. I was too busy thinking about getting ready etc. He tended to use a long zoom and stood a distance away, some of the shots we have I can't remember him being in the room. He also took the flowers outside to do some close up shots and arranged my shoes and I didn't even notice. I think a good phoographer will make sure they don't get in the way.

I was a bit more aware of the videographer, mainly because when I saw her I thought she can catch what i'm saying as well as what i look like! Tried to avoid any bridezilla moments ? When it was time to put my dress on she asked me if I felt comfortable with her being there. But other than that it was fine having them around. I actually felt more excited when they arrived as it felt real then!

My "record" was 13 bridesmaids along with the bride and her parents leaving from a one bedroom flat in Sawbridgeworth. At the end of the day, you deal with whatever is thrown at you. It was a good wedding.

Some brides ask me to stage their preparation. So they do all the main bits before I get there and they build an extra half hour into the schedule for getting some extra shots. Then they fake things like putting on mascara (which they've already done) or they do the nice bits like putting on jewellery and having a pre-wedding glass of champagne!

Professional operators are used to cropping scenes to get the 'must have' shots from the morning preparations, no matter how cramped or busy the location.
Any moments of indescretion from a video point of view will be edited out, but will still show the natural excitement and hectic build up as part of the day.
Have no fears about others on the day, especially if you have experienced professional video/photo operators. They will be the ones who help smooth the proceedings for you and as a bride, you will be far too busy and excited to notice. ?

Hi! Don't worry about it too much, like said earlier in the thread a good photographer will definately not get in your way. Videographers tend to pop in and do their bit and shoot out anyway.

You will bound to be feeling a little stressed and there are ways to help with this!
    - Drink some champers (!)
    - Plan your 'getting ready' itinery really thoroughly.
    - Leave space in your bedroom just for you and your dress and bits and pieces, Bridesmaids can use the bathroom or living room.
    - Don't leave getting dressed until the last minute either, it can take a lot longer than expected!

Your photographer may even be able to help you with dressing, I am usually called on for help with one thing or another, i love getting involved!

    Relax!

    LOL

We wont' get in your way, but chances are in a small house with lots of others around as well the photographer and video can get in each others way and it can be a little too hectic to get clean backgrounds.

I love all the comments that 'a good professional' etc, truth is photography and video reflects reality, sure, a certain amount can be cut out with editing skills and the right angle, but you can't polish a turd.

The main problem is likely to be mess, coats, dresses, bags, carrier bags, coat hangers, makeup and all that other stuff you girls carry around. If you can keep the place tidy you'll probably do OK.

I probably would suggest having either a videographer or photographer present though rather than both, with the other covering the groom.
