Do we need a recruitment drive?

Iris, 1 September, 2009 at 12:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 24

So many people have gone to the other place that we seem a bit thin on the ground. Know any would be OT'ers? Invite them to an open day. Go on any other forums? Place an advert, "wanted, hitchers....". I'm tempted to venture on to planning and wade through the ? to find some great new OTers.

I really wish people hadn't gone over to the other forum. I can understand it's use for when Hitched was down but not now. I know there are still problems and I know Darren annoyed a lot of people but Dean explained and surely we owe them a little bit of loyalty?

    Come back Hitchers! Please?

    Can I nominate myself?!

We're not getting married for a few years (when we've finished at Uni), so I sometimes get a bit bored of WP, because we obviously aren't planning yet.

I think most of the leavers would argue that they had already shown an incredible amount of loyalty sticking with hitched through months of slow loads and outage.

This place is still hardly what you'd call quick.

I guess you're right P&P. Maybe I'm just living in a cloud of optimism that thinks that one day this place will get back to how it used to be <wistful sigh>

I'm checking both, and posting on both, when there's something I want to reply to. At the moment, there are more people, more threads, more topics I want to reply to over there though.

It took a good few minutes from me pressing "reply" here to the box popping up - not so good!

<technological dunce> why is it so slow for some people and not for others? I'm not having any problems at all today with the speed and I'm on my shockingly old, underpowered work computer.

Thinking about it, I wouldn't be able to go over to the other place whilst at work any way because it would be picked up as being a forum (this being a forum within a web-site isn't though). I'm sure that will stop some other people too.

I do understand people going if they're having problems, just wish nobody had to.

I'm lurking a bit here but for me it's simple, I'm there for OT because it's better.

As for loyalty, well yes but to be honest that cuts both ways.

I may come back properly when there are no more problems, but Darren's attitude sucks and people don't forget such condescension quickly. FWIW it's just taken a ridiculous amount of time to load the page for me to reply, it then faltered 3 times on adding the text to quote. Hitched is still a ball ache, at least from where I'm sitting.

In the meantime, I'm popping in and out.

I'm over here now, but was on WP (married in June).

I don't have a huge amount of time to read and post, so it's very frustrating when it is so slow and takes so long! Saying that, it has been much lately, but I've been so busy I haven't got on.

I did venture over to the other place, but dh (techie geek!) told me off because I got some virus alerts come up on the pc. Was fine at work though lol!!

I like Hitched. I liked WP (it wasn't so fluffy when I joined, and there are def some non-fluffies over there), and I like OT too.

    I am here too! ?

I have to admit that I feel like I "kill" threads over here, when I reply...or is it just me that feels like this ??

I should make an effort to post more

Ditto! It feels like many of my posts don't get acknowledged, like on this thread for example!

I'm another who flits back and forth, but I'm posting on the other site because, frankly, it's faster and more fun.

The problem with Hitched is that its hard to have a proper discussion when so few people can post a reply in keeping with the speed on the thread. Its often so long between getting your words posted that the conversation has moved on and your input no longer makes sense.

Sometimes Hitched works and sometimes it doesn't. Its clearly been a lot worse than some who aren't experiences problems realise. Thats been made perfectly clear by all the old timers returning to the new place.

I see little point being here when its so temperamental. I still lurk (obviously) and I may return if it ever gets back to its hey day but the other forum is great, fast moving, funny and all the things Hitched used to be.

I don't feel much loyalty to Hitched, I'm not sure why I should. Its been a fab place in the past but its the community that make it great IMO not the forum owners.

I've always felt like this tbh but I don't let it deter me!

Sometimes I think I just come into a post too late - but again that could be me being optimistic!

    Luv Victoria

Nope, me too! I will try and post something everyday, but I don't think anyone will really want to hear anything I have to say *dullard icon*

Another thread-killer here too! I have been here for years (I still remember the yellow hitched). I just lurk more than post. Trying to decide whether to register on the new site or not - just lurking at the moment...
