Do you celebrate anniversaries?

Lili Donkey, 15 July, 2008 at 11:03 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 17

It's our second wedding anniversary today and whilst we made a bit of an effort last year we haven't done anything this year, and don't plan to (I have the hump with H over the lack of housework he does which hasn't helped ?) but RL friends have commented that it's a bit odd we're not making a big deal about it...

We'd never celebrated an 'anniversary' before last year, we never really make a big deal of birthdays etc. either - are we normal or generally miserable old unromantic boring sods?

My 1st anniversary card from H is still sitting unwritten in the cupboard, along with the "on our wedding day" cards we both bought and never got around to writing - we're doomed aren't we?!

Not in any big way, no. I would possibly make more of it if H made an effort. I'll get a card and we may go out, depends on our finances. Won't be anything too OTT though.

We made a big thing of our anniversary this year - it was our first though. We'll do something each year I think, but we also make a big thing of birthdays too. Not being bothered about birthdays/anniversarys isn't in anyway wrong and celebrating them isn't compulsary. So long as you both have the same attitude, then it won't cause problems (I can see problems for a couple where one wants to celebrate and the other isn't bothered!)

    Congratuations though!

    nope

we vaguely talked about going out or away for the weekend this year - but just because it was a convenient time/excuse - but we had visitors so didnt

generally we will say happy anniversary and then marvel that we have survived another year without knifing each other

    Cards ? Yes

    Meal out ? Probably

That's about it. But then, I spoil her rotten throughout the year anyway.

Not really no. Depends on what else we have going on, if we have the kids, finances, etc.

We do a card and maybe a meal out. Last year was our first and we went to Chez Bruce.

This year on the anniversary itself he's going out with our best man to a concert - I don't mind though as best man was away in iraq for 5 months at the start of the year and they've hardly seen each other.

We'll probably do something the weekend before but nothing big.

We'll always do cards, usually out for dinner. This year we decided to fly to Cuba the day before our anniversary, so spent it in Havana which was fab. We're thinking of going away for it next year too.

This is pretty much us. I think we virtually ignored it last year because i was so shattered due to excessive workload, and too much work travel. This year we are thinking of making use of bing 5 mins from france, and going here: https://www.michelkayser.com/fr/

Kind of - normally we're so disorganise we buy cards in the day and then get home and decide whether to cook a nice meal or go out. In fact last year I think H gave me food poisoning!

Anyhow, this year, despite it not being until October, we've managed to get a good deal on a hotel room in London, so we're going to do two days in the village ?

We are normally on holiday when it's our anniversay, so we just give each other cards, however this year, H surprised me with a stay at the hotel where we got married, and we had the honeymoon suite too. So I was really pleased with that!

I must admit he does make more effort than I do!

We normally buy a card and have a £10 limit on a present - going by the lists. So this year I think it's leather for us. I might make a special meal as well.

We dont do anniversary cards as the first three anniversaries we were away on holidays. We didnt bother last year either, but we did take the day off work and went on a day trip somewhere we had not been before. Again this year as we wont be on holidays we are taking the day off together for a day out somewhere.

I feel like a rubbish Wife now - it's Mr. Lil's birthday tomorrow too and I haven't got around to getting him a present for that either ? I was going to chuck some cash in his card but reading that back I feel really bad!

I was up until 1 this morning cleaning the bathroom and ironing so I'm a fab Wife in that respect, I just can't be bothered with all the 'happy' fluff - if the theme for 2nd anniversary was easier I would have bought him something but cotton is a bit pants (excuse the pun)...

I am upduffed at the moment, so we will have to curtail plans to celebrate our 1st anniversary in November away somewhere lovely. That said, there will be an exchange of cards, present and dinner out, I would imagine.

We make a "big deal" over birthdays. Usually take each other away for the weekend as a "main" present, and exchange smaller gifts.

All we have ever done is buy eachother a card. Nothing else. And we never expect anyone else to bother as it's our celebration no one elses. So i'm always shocked when people send us cards.
