Do you feel old?

Clairy, 6 October, 2008 at 15:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 28

I'm almost 35 and have really started feeling my age. I've put on a stone in a year, I have dark circles under my eyes and crows feet. Oh and weird bristles on my chin that I only notice when I feel them, and then worrying everyone else has been able to see them before me ?

When did this happen? I am still 11 in my head. It's not fair <stamps foot>

Have the chin hairs lasered, it's not a big deal these days! I know what you mean though, some days I still feel in my early 20's and some days I look in the mirror and think what the hell happened, I have lines under my eyes and a lined neck. I'm 32 this month.

I am 35. I may be a munter, but I'm not growing a beard yet. Crows feet, yes, dark circles, yes, grey hair, yes. But then it's been that way for 10 years

No, I don't feel old. I'm 34. I feel (and I think look) 'youthful' ? (if anyone on here has met me and thinks otherwise please keep it to yourself ?)

I was particularly pleased when a new girl at work kept referring to people 'our' age. I knew she was 24 so asked her how old she thought I was. She thought I was 28 ?. I was, and still am very pleased about that ?

Edited to add: I too have a lined neck ☹️

I'm 35 this year and I've had grey in my hair since I was 18 and I am overweight and undertall and my back aches and I feel like I am about 90 with these drugs I'm on but apart from that I'm not feeling too old at the moment.

Nope. I feel tired a lot but that's only because I'm permanently on the go and I'm trying to find a balance between doing so much and being sensible.

I don't think I've got crows feet - I think my hands "give me away" more than my face does and I don't have any grey hairs (that I can see!) All in all I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. (I'm 39).

Physically, I feel/am much older!? That's taking into effect looks (although I don't have much in the way of wrinkles/grey hair), tiredness, being able to walk precisely 2ft (well it feels like it!) and my inability to tie my own show laces. ?

I don't think I mentally feel much older than I am (28) though.

    ?@lois,

I am 39 and still think I look young even though in my heart I know I don't. My 12 year old asked me the other day "when was I going to start dressing like a grown up"?

I think I will still be dressing on trend when I am 90, I keep telling myself it's what makes me, me...

I feel old when I read your posts when you bemoan the fact you feel old at 30 / 35 / 39 etc. I'm even older than this and have all the grey hairs / wrinkles etc to prove it. Shall I rename myself granny? (But inside I'm still about 25 .....)

I am 31 and traumatised everytime I think about it!

I work with people younger than me which doesn't help though. You talk about childrens programmes or an old band and they have no idea who you are talking about ?

I'm 34 and really do not feel it. My hair started going grey before my 21st, hands and skin looks OK, I think or at least I don't seem to have any wrinkles around my eyes but then due to sensitive eyes I'm always the first to put on sunglasses and the last to remove them! ?

I'm 39 and don't feel old and mostly don't think I look old but sometimes I think I look terrible. I have a few lines but I don't have any grey hairs. My H is 4 years younger than me and has loads of grey hairs-he says its me. I think I feel better about myself these days as I lost 3 stone. I can't wait to be 40

I'm feeling quite young at the moment- a combination of physical things (I've been going to the gym a lot and have also given up drinking for a few weeks, so am feeling pretty sprightly) and mental ones (I've just started a course which I am loving more than I could have believed possible- doing something new is making me feel very chipper and the fact I'm a student again reminds me of old student days when I was but a lass...)

In fact, when I took my son to nursery this morning, I remember thinking, "here I am with two kids- I bet everyone else assumes I'm the nanny" ?

(meanwhile they're all thinking, "oh, isn't it nice that John comes in with his granny" ?)

Yep, I am 31, 32 next March and feel old though don't think I necessarily look it! I have had a lot of upheaval in the last year and I think that has aged me. I do sometimes look at my responsibility and wish I could just rush off and dance to some cheesy music just to feel young again....but I know full well I would have to find a somewhere with tables and chairs, would moan about my shoes hurting and the music being too loud ?

The only thing that makes me feel old is my size and when I look at younger people and wonder why on earth they wear what they do ?

I'm 31 and could of kissed a woman who thought I was in my early 20s ? Although I'm still waiting for my first grey hair and I seem to have escaped from wrinkles so far, I have a few fine lines and that's it ?

No. I am 40 next year, but I don't feel, look or act it! There are things I'd change of course, and I'll never have the body or skin I had in my 20's, but whilst there's corsets/control pants, botox and red lippy, I am happy with my lot! Seriously-the one good thing about being this age and stage, is that I have a wonderful husband whom I met later in life when we were both ready, and I no longer wear my insecurities like a badge.

I've just turned 36 but still feel about 17 in my head.

Sure, I have some crows feet, a few grey hairs and I no longer have the figure I did back then, but I find hair dye (well, bleach at the moment as I'm going blonde for a change), magic knickers/tights and only having one mirror in the house all help ?

I'm 29 and dreading turning 30 next year. I am the oldest out of our group of friends who are all around mid-20's. However I have really pale freckled skin that doesn't seem to wrinkle apart from a few laughter lines and I have been dying my hair since I was 14 so I have no idea what my natural colour is or if its grey!

I don't think I look my age, but I certainly feel it at times - once I am over the big 30 I will be fine.

I am 30 at christmas, i feel old as my H is only 23? i did get asked if i was over 21 in the supermarket the other day as i was buying wine, so that perked me up a bit. I said i was 29 but she still made me show her my ID <want to insert bouncy man>

I have a few grey hairs, but they are easily covered, so not a big problem

I'm 41, and most of the people I work with are between 16 - 25. The other day I was talking about Charley the cat from the 70's adverts, and they looked at me like I was deranged.

I work in a care home and we have one gentleman who prefers the older carers to bath him, and I'm one of them. [:'(]

I am just 30 but hopefully a childhood of eczema has helped with my aging as I have been moisturising my whole body every time I shower or bath so at least once, maybe twice a day, plus my face and neck twice daily. This was a habit instilled in me cos of my eczema and one I have continued since.

I also use handcream in the morning and before I go to bed at night so my hands are ok. Someone touched my skin a few weeks ago and commented on how soft it was. I have laughter lines around my eyes but think that adds character. I have my blonde hair highlighted so wouldn't know about grey hairs, so far pubes are still blonde ?

I still act and think like I'm in my twenties and I have been mistaken for 25, but I don't quite think I look that young. I think I look the best I ever have in my life - my hair is in good condition (get frequent comments about it), I can afford better skin products which has made a massive difference to my skin and I am finally happy with my figure and run and go to the gym 3 - 4 times a week.

I am not vain and don't think I'm beautiful just that now I feel I make the best of how I am!
