Do you have a best friend?

Kjay, 7 February, 2013 at 11:41 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 46

Random musing from me,

I did- but nearly a year a go we fell out. We used to phone or text a few times a week, go out at least once every couple of weeks for a drink, food, cinema or just pop to each others for a brew etc.

In some ways I really miss her- the only other people I do things one on one with is boyo and my mum.

I go out with people from work if the opportunity arises and a small group of us go for breakie every so often. We have two other couples we are quite friendly with who we do something with every month or so but other than that I am pretty much a loner!

How about you guys?

ETA I have cringed at my use of the term 'best friend'!!!

I have a few really good mates, but I do have a besty, and I don't know what I'd do without her to be honest. I can never imagine us drifting apart, ever. I see her about 3 times a week, speak most days and text a fair bit every day. It's nice because her H is best mats with my H so it's a pretty special relationship we all have.

Other than OH ? & my Mum, I have my one besty who will be my MOH. I don't really have many friends and she is the only person who I really see on a regular basis! I would be lost without her!

I've got two, B and K. They know each other, but they're not close. We all went to the same school, but we were never all in the same group. I speak to them both most days, and try to see them as much as I can. H is my best friend too I tell him everything, but when I moan about him or am talking girly stuff its B and K I go to x

Not since I was 13 & we fell out. Never wanted a besty after that. (She went off with a new besty!!)

I have a group of close friends but no one specific. As we've got older & settled down we don;t seem to need each other as much, but when we do get together, it's like no time has passed.x

Nope I don't, my 'best' friend is my bridesman but unfortunately he lives in another town so can' just pop round whenever I need a chat! But we text or fb most days and see each other regularly. I would say my OH is now my best friend.

I have what I'd count as a best friend because we've been friends since school but we don't see each other or text that much and when we do it's with our OH's there as well. I've never been that close to any friend that I could tell them anything or spend loads of time with them, which is a shame.

I do, we met in the first term of Uni through friends and realised we had a lot more in common so we hung out together!

We have been BFFs for 10 years now and even went out for an anniversary night out! ?

we are so similar and have so much in common and love the same things!

most people think we talk in our own language, one of us just has to say one thing or quote something (usually from Romy & Michelle) and we are in fits of giggles and still managing to communicate!

we have been there for each other throught he ups and downs and she was the best chief b.maid I could ever have had!

    ?I luffs her!?

On paper, yes I do. She was my best friend throughout secondary school and she was my bridesmaid. We hardly speak these days though, not that we've fallen out or anything, just neither of us makes the effort to phone, visit etc. I'm just as bad as she is. I wonder if our lack of effort means that we're not that bothered, or if it's just a case that we're such good friends that we don't need to speak all the time and that on the few occasions we do see each other, it's just like it was.

The couple we spend the most time with are relatively new friends, but we go to theirs for dinner at least once a fortnight and they are coming away with us for my birthday, as they did last year. They are 52 and 45, to our 35 and 29 but it doesn't feel like such an age gap.

We have a lot of different sets of friends, whereas I sometimes envy my sister and her husband, who have two or three "best" friend couples, who are very, very close, all each other's bridesmaids/ushers etc, whereas we don't have that.

I've got two, but we are a group of three, all met at school. It used to be four of us but one went weird and cut us out (Friends tv programme stylee!). We don;t speak everyday, probably not every week even but we are all the same and know if we needed each other we'd be there in a shot. We probably meet up a couple of times a month at least though.

I don't really have many friends otherwise but I've got 3 sisters who I'm really close to

Yep! I have one very best friend C. We have known each other since 1st year high school. We are also friends with JF who C met through work and is also a best friend. The 3 of us email most days and go for lunch and they know everything!

I also have my cousin A and another friend JN who I have known since I was 4. They also come under the best friend heading in my eyes.

C is top of this list though. We have been through alot together over the years, we don't always get on and we fight but I love her. We are more like sisters I guess.

Um. I have a friend who I could tell anything too. We maybe see / speak a couple of times a week.

I have other friends who are great for different things if that makes sense.

I can tell OH pretty much anything & have a great relationship with my parents and an aunt.

To be honest Im really content with my own company. IE OH goes to football on a sat & one night through the week. I love that time to myself.

Most of my friends are *really* close friends that I can tell anything to. I do have a best friend though, who I have known since high school. We were inseperable back then. However our lives are very different now; I went off to uni, she became a mum. We have always been in contact, but we can go months without speaking (more back when I was at uni). When we do see each other, it is like we've not been apart. We can talk the hind legs off a donkey!
However, she is not always my go to friend when I have problems/need to speak to someone, and I am not hers. But when we do have a heart to heart, it makes a big difference. Last week we met up to go shopping. We stopped for coffee and began to chat. We stayed there for hours, going over situations, offering help, suggestion solutions etc. The next night, I received a text from her that made me cry, telling me how much the chat had meant and how she is proud of me for what I have achieved, how she misses me and how she truely treasures my friendship. I felt exactly the same.
We don't live close now, so it can be difficult to see one another, but whenever I go home I make sure we can meet up!
I cannot wait to spend the night with her the night before my wedding!!

I have lots of different friends for different things: drinking/theatre/meals out/fun chat/serious chat/etc.

My oldest friend is a bit loopy and can't be relied upon, always cancels last minute, etc. but I do love her and that's just the way she is - I just know not to rely on her. Unless there was something earth-shattering, then she would be there in a shot.

I have a Hitcher who I'm very friendly with and meet regularly, we have tons in common and I really think that we could be great friends for a very long time.

I have a friend who is great for meals out, quiet drink, theatre, etc. but it far too serious for a proper night on the town as she doesn't enjoy it and can be quite moody.

My cousin, who was my Maid of Honour, is my best friend, and always will be.

I posted on here about a year ago I think, down in the dumps after a realisation that I didn't really have any friends, and you were all lovely. Since then, I've put more effort in to my existing friends, and also on making new ones - it's crazy how different things are now as I'm happy with my friendships and my social calendar is always busy ?

I have a group of 10 friends, most of whom I have been friends with since we started secondary school, and a couple have joined us over the years. I would refer to all of them as my best friends, I can tell them anything, could call on any one of them at any time of need and know they would be there, as I would for them. We still go on holiday together at least once a year, even if we only manage a long weekend between kids, husbands work etc and speak as a group on whats app or facebook messages at least once a week. Some of them I see more than others, some of them I speak to more than others, but we all get together as often as we can.

If I really, really had to pick there are 3 that I am probably that little bit closer to than all the others, and I speak to them most days in one form or another, these 3 were my bridesmaids.

I have other friends that I see regularly, but we are nowhere near as close as I am to my besties

I have been friends with my MOH for 26 years. We don't speak every day but we'll always be close.

My mam is the person I speak to every day.

Other than that I have about 7 girls I'd consider extremely close friends then a much wider group of very good friends.

I consider myself very lucky tbh.

I suppose I would class my MOH as my best friend- We've known each other for 18 years and see her regularly, but we both have other close friends too. I like that i have friends from different groups. I also appreciate that some friends will come and go. I'd always been close to a friend from school, but over the last year things have been a bit funny with her, and for ages I'd worried about what I might have done wrong, but have now just come to accept that some friendships do unfortunately just dwindle, and life is too short to worry about it. I'm also very close to my brother's girlfriend, and see her as a close friend.

I have a best friend who I have been friends with ever since she was born, we used to live over the road from one another and have always been really really close.

She emigrated to Australia almost exactly 2 years ago today. We skype and facebook message regularly and she's coming back for my wedding (her birthday as well!)

I have 3 sisters who I'm also close to and a few other friends so am really lucky

A bit like Kharv, I speak to my mum every day, were very close.

My absolute best friend is my cousin but is more like a sister.

Then I have my 3 best friends separate to that who are all in a little group.

Then my group of old friends who I'm still close to.

My best friend is a girl I met at school. She was the only one who stood by me when I became pregnant at 17. My best friend at the time (a girl i'd known since I was 3) ditched me, along with everyone else. I'd only known N about a year, but she became my rock. 10 years later, we now live on streets next to each other (I can see her bedroom window from my bedroom window ?), and my kids refer to her as "Aunty N".

We don't see each other that much now, as she's just got a massive promotion from receptionist, to manager of a hotel, but when we do, it's like no time has passed. She's awesome.

Other than OH and my sister, my best mate is a guy I met at work. We've been friends for about 4 years and I can talk to him about anything. We hang out a lot and often go for drinks, just us two. Luckily OH isn't the jealous type, and gets on well with him too! I've just always found that I get on better with guys than girls.

Apart from him, I don't have one "bestie" I could pick out; there are probably 5 who I am roughly equally close to. They're all friends from uni; I am not in contact with anyone from school.

I don't think I have a best friend. I have a number of very good friends but OH & my parents are the ones I turn to with news or for support.

I got stung a couple of times with so called best friends dumping me so never really established another friendship like that since.

    I would like one though.

To be honest I don't really have friends. I've got loads of school friends on Facebook that we occasionally fb message or something. We'd talk if we saw each other out. I went off and got married while they were all out drinking and at uni. I've got three friends A,K and V. A and V are lovely and K was my best friend in high school. She makes no effort to text/message ever, she won't talk on fb or anything. There's a bigger group of maybe 10-15 girls that we would all go for birthday meals together and stuff but they all planned and went out at Christmas and I was pretty much the only one not invited. It's as if I'm married so I wouldn't go out.

It's sad but my mum brother an H are brilliant company and I'd say we were probably all good friends (as sad as that might sound!!)
