Do you have a name for your car?

em-ster, 15 August, 2009 at 17:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

I ask because I've recently ordered a new car and collect on Monday. Whilst I can't wait for the new one, I'll be sorry to see Tina (!) my current car go.

It made me realise that H and I have named each of the cars we have owned since being together.

We've currently got a big black truck called Terry, an old VW that H shows called Herman and Tina the Puma who is heading for pastures new. Previous cars have included Peter the Passat, Gidget the Ka, Wolfie the Golf and Brum the Bora

This is something I'd never done before meeting H and wondered if I / we were alone (and possibly slightly mad!)

I call my Beetle 'The Meepster' - which it finds a bit emasculating given its v5 engine, poor thing!

I bought a Hetty hoover because she was pink, and we now say 'the house needs Hetty'ing' rather than 'the house needs hoovering'!

I'm getting an i20 in a couple of weeks so I need to choose a name. However, I think I'll have to see him before I choose one. And yes, unlike most people I think cars are male.

Hector the Hyundai or Ivor the i20 maybe.

My car has cow print seat covers so she is called Bluebell, the cowiest name I could think of that wasn't the obvious Daisy.

(My husband calls his wallet Walter ?)

My clio's called Ruby - she's ultra red and the song Ruby Ruby Ruby was very popular when I bought her. Before that I had Gina who was french, dark metallic orange and pretty fizzy in the engine department - so Orangina or Gina seemed to fit. ?

We currently have Ruby (red fiesta), "the red dragon" (red capri); "the blue whale" (blue mk2 granada) and Dirk (grey capri, but the letters of the reg sound like dirk), so no, you're not the only loons ?

Yes. My first car was called Heart of Gold, because (Hitchhiker's Guide nerd alert) every drive was an improbability.

Now I belong to and work for a car share group and I have named some of our cars as well. There's Voodo Child and Prima Donna, for example.

I currently have a Stella the Stilo and this is the first car I've named. Not sure why we've named this one and not my previous 2 cars.

My Mum has always named her cars she's had Florence the Fiat Punto and currently has Doris the motorhome!

My fiat 500 is called Rocco, it's red. I struggled to choose between Rocco and Elvis though, so you can have Elvis if you want. ?

    Yes, It's called 'Golden Thunder'

Never normally name cars, but with our current car it seems to have picked up that name.

it's a gold coloured, big Hyundai Santa Fe 4x4, the engine makes a big roar and the name seems to suit it rather well.

My first car, a corsa, was called Corrie. I was heartbroken getting rid of it.

My current car is 'the midden', as my toddler seems to think that it is a dumping ground for toys/food/everything ?

I have only ever named one car- he was a Smart Passion cabriolet in black called Dinky. I adored him <sob>

My daughter has dabbled with "Poppy" for my far more sensible red Toyota Yaris, but I am afraid it is just "my car" as opposed to t'husband's Jeep, which is "your car."

We've named all our cars. Ruby a seriously old but super reliable Vauxhall Polo estate (red), followed by Benny a Vauxhall Astra (green). Next was Arthur, a '93 Saab 900s (black) and currently Roxy, another Saab 900s but a '95 (metallic red).

Ironically when we had a beautiful Jaguar XJS V12, it wasn't given a name just The Jag. Seems we have a more personal connection with our dodgy old motors.

i don't really get it either and we do name ours ?
