Do you have an accent?

Chidders, 9 March, 2012 at 08:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 184

I have noticed recently, that when I read posts (especially from more established Hitchers), I put a voice and accent to what they write!

So spill......

I have a classy Wolverhampton accent, though it is not strong and I do not speak the dialect. Some of you may call it a 'Brummy'accent (which it is not!).

Oi, nout wrong with that! ?

I do have a Brummy accent but nothing like the morons your see/hear on the news etc. I cringe whenever I watch the Central News. I try to talk 'properly' but a few things slip out. Like 'buzz' instead of 'bus' ?

I have a Stoke accent which is a mix of Scouse, Manc and East Midlands.

Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGs5SlUdX1A (my accent is no where near this strong anymore though)

I find with Brummie's, they say bath not barth same as me, but then say Larf instead of laugh (laff).

I don't know Flange, maybe a bit of a mixture but you are right, I say laff and they say larf. I am consistently common!

Yes Chids, from town drive through SO and you're in NF. If you fancy popping round for tea, bring a bodyguard. 'Tis a bit ruff.

I don't think I have one but I'm always told 'mild London', all my family are from North London.

Been living in Northamptonshire a few years now and I've noticed I've picked up some sayings but so far not any accent.

Local friends often oo instead of ew, like foo-neral not few-nural. OH has quite a broad Northants accent, says 'dun't' instead of don't/doesn't', amongst many other things, drives me mad ?

I get mistaken for a Brummie, but with living so close to Brum (Tamworth), and having a Brummie H, i'm bound to slip into the accent every now and then.

My cousins from Yorkshire think I "talk posh"...

I'm from the country so have a hillbilly twant - but I've been in Glasgow for 11 years so it's getting more Glasweigan the longer I'm here. It's wierd mix!

Folk from 'home' think I've turned into to weegie because of the way I talk, proper weegies know I'm not from around these parts! I do try to rein my accent in and speak 'proper' which makes the mix even worse!

I'm a mixture of RP (BBC English!) but an East Midlander by birth who lives in Yorkshire for a while, so in the company of friends I am "northern".

I lived in Sutton Coldfield for 21 years but have laregly managed to avoid any "Brumminess". apparently if I try to do a brum accent it comes out as Tipton. No idea why. Never been there.

I dont really have one, beacuse of this some folks have said i have a 'posh accent' but it think its just because i dont have an idenifiable one! my voice is boring!

(I grew up in Hampshire BTW)

both my parents are from oop norff but my mum's accent has pretty much completely gone.

Ive lived in bristol now for 10 years and i find my self saying bristolian sayings but i dont think ive picked up an accent, my mum dissagrees though!

I'm from Solihull so I have hints of the Brummie accent but most people are surprised when I say I'm from near Birmingham as they don't pick it up.

There's definately no R in bath! At a previous job some of my colleagues used to tease me about how I said "tuthbrush".

    Do you say:

"I'm on the drag" and "it's a bit on the huh" These confused me when I first heard them.

Live on London/Kent Borders and family are all from SE London. Think Mickey Flanagan and you're not far off (although he is from East London and to the untrained ear you wouldn't know the difference)
