Do you have an obsession?!

Flowmojo, 8 March, 2012 at 11:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 86

Ok, now, i didnt realise until earlier this week that coming in at a close second to my shoes obsession that everyone knows about is my bracelet obsession! I literally have hundreds..even a drawer in a chest of drawers dedicated to them (yes theres a willy straw chucked in for good measure)

This isnt even all of them, the proper jewellery bracelets are in my actual jewelly box, theres another 12 or so i guess! Thing is, i Do wear them all, sometimes il chuck on 4 or 5 random ones just cos i dont want to leave any out! Today i have the wide pink one at the top of the pic and on the other arm my charm bracelet...mis matched much!?

So, any one else have a non obvious obession? be it food, drink, clothes, shoes, tv whatever...come on, fess up!!

    Bracelets for me too!

I'm not much of a jewellery wearer, all my bracelets are material/bead casual type but I looooooove them!

This is my next buy https://www.accessorize.com/en/ireland/festival-friendship-pack/invt/18419099/?bklist=icat,4,shop,jewelleryshop,jewelleryshopbracelets

Hearts - my home would be full of them if my OH let me. I love the shabby chic style ones. All I've managed to get into the house is a blackboard for the kitchen with hearts on and some magnets from the fridge. He says they are all too girly though and won't let me take over the house!

I have an obsession with nails in general, my OH will tell you I never stop messing with them, whether I am filing them, oiling them or gelling them (I recently bought all the stuff to do gels at home)

I also have the standard girly obsession with shoes, particularly wedges, and also with jewellery, I cannot resist a bit of sparkle and always ask for at least one piece for birthday and Christmas and then add to it myself throughout the year.

I am waiting for delivery of these beauties as we speak:

<Rose shuffles in her seat nervously and wonders if she should admit to this or not>

    Ty Beanie Babies

When they released the first nine (Chocolate, Splash, Flash, Legs, Patti, Brownie, Punchers, Squealer and Spot!) in 1993, I persuaded my mum to by them all on a shopping trip. Mum was happy to do so, I think she thought they were a set of toys, and there would be no more. Little did she know that they were the first of a series of collectibles.

Within a couple of years, they were the 'toy of the moment', and there loads of them. To make them more desirable, different bears had different release days ("birthdays") and they got retired after a time, so it just fed the obsession. You wanted to get X Bear before it got retired and more difficult to get.

Then they retired them in 1999, young girls (and adult collectors) mourned, parents rejoiced. They even released a bear called 'The End'. ?

However, due to the outcry (I think my 12-year old self sent about 20 letters!), they thought again and in 2000 a new bear called 'The Beginning' was released. 13-year old Rose was a very happy teenager.

That was 12 years ago, I'm now 25, and I still collect them.

No-one is sure exactly how many different Beanie Babies there are, because there are different ones available in different countries, but it runs into several thousand. Even I own 1,504 bears.

So yeah, Ty Beanie Babies are my obsession, and some might say a disturbing one.

    I'll get my coat...

I think I have a mini obsession with holidays, I can't not have at least one a year, and I like to always have one coming up, even if it is just a weekend, and to me it is not a proper holiday if I don't have to use my passport ! I totally appreciate the beauty of the UK and all it has to offer, and I do spend some long weekends here, but I always feel a bit sad for people who have not had the opportunity or desire to travel abroad, there is such an amazing world out there !

    Seriously.

For several years as a child, all I wanted for Christmas and birthdays, was Beanie Babies. Not everyone would get me Beanies, but some people did! Family members would buy me two or three each time, maybe more. My mum and dad got me several each Christmas and birthday. Friends would get me one or two. Any money I got, I'd go out and buy the ones I wanted, that I hadn't received.

Pocket money of £20 per week, half of which I was allowed to spend on Beanie Babies. That was 2 per week, so 104 per year.

    Thus they soon accumulated.

Reading it back, I realise I must sound like an utter nutcase, but I just loved well still love those cute little bears.

I hasten to add, I'm not as bad now, I only buy them now if I really love the bear.

I also collect snow and glitter globes. I know, I know, it's amazing I've found anyone mad enough to want to marry me!

Like I said, I'll get my coat...

NB: To stop me sounding like a real lunatic, I must add that I have some very rare bears in my collection, including a #1 Bear. #1 Bear was a bear given to Ty sales reps when the product was first launched, and as these reps left the company, some of them sold their bears on. Thus they became much sought after items. Collectors these days are willing to pay about £5,000 for a #1 Bear. I got my #1 Bear years ago, when people didn't pay such silly money for them. My complete collection is worth about £20,000 in total, because of the rare bears I've got, so you know, it's not as mad as it seems!

No, no, I think it's awesome! I've never known anyone who actually collects stuff. Do you think you'll collect them for the rest of your life, or do you think you'll eventually say "enough is enough" and stop? What does your H2B think of it?

More importantly, how on earth do you clean around them?!

Ooh I bet you would love this Jen

    http://www.very.co.uk/graham-brown-hearts-canvas/965050553.prd?browseToken=%2fb%2f13311%2fs%2fbestsellers%2c0%2fo%2f7

We just ordered it for the spare bedroom. I originally bought it for our room but H said it was a bit too shabby for his liking - I HATE it when they get involved in things that don't concern them ? I also have some nice little scented hanging hearts for the bathroom doors, bet your H wouldn't even notice if you got them ?

My obsession is all things housey ATM, I spend way too much time looking for things to buy online and in the shops, I'm fussy and indecisive too though so it takes me ages to decide on anything!

Oooh ooh my shot glasses - how could I forget my shot glasses. I collect them from the different places I travel - I get my family to get them when they are away too. In my office I've got a couple of bookcases and 2/3 shelves on each have them on them

Jack thinks "it's cute." He doesn't buy me any though, he did try once, but he was looking through them in a shop, and realised he had no idea which ones I had and which I didn't!

I don't think I'll stop until they stop producing them, but now I've got all the "rare bears" I'm not as bad as I was once.

The last "rare bear" I wanted was 3-2-1 Countdown to New Year's Bear. They released three different Countdown to New Year's Bear; 10-9-8, 7-5-6-4 and 3-2-1 and there was only a certain number of each, and the smallest amount released was the 3-2-1 Bear.

As my birthday is New Year's Day, I really wanted all three, and I got the other two easily, but it took me six years to get my hands on a 3-2-1 Bear! I only got it last year.

Now I've got that bear, I can relax a little!

    ?

Edited to add: Most of them are stored away, in special protection boxes, for the time-being. I want to get some special storage units built for them and then have them put into one of our spare bedrooms, so it will be a special Beanie Babies display room. Jack doesn't know this yet. So at the moment, cleaning around them is fine, as I have about 25 on display (in protective cases) in the living room!

NYR- did you ever watch Psychoville, with the blind guy who was a collector and quite sinister when it came to buying rare ones that werent in his collection?!

as most girls i have a lot of shoes and handbags, also chunky colourful necklaces! (on a trip back from spain, my hand luggage was over by 2 kg so i took out my necklaces & my small make up bag and it was fine. i have been ridiculed ever since about the weight of my jewellery!

on a more serious "you may have a problem" note, my H is convinced im a horder and im going to end up a lady who's newspaper collection from the last 20 years falls on her and kills her!

Personally, i think he is just being dramatic!!

Ooh yay Sassy - not just me - phew. Love Tabasco and Snort.

I've got several Peace Bears, as they made different versions. I love Peace Bear.

I couldn't pick a favourite, but I have a soft spot for Big Apple (New York City bear), as I was born in NYC and we lived there until I was 3.
