Do you have any "fairies" in your house?

Erin8, 5 April, 2014 at 13:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 32

Mr Erin seems to think we have fairies living in our house. Mysteriously after us living here for nearly 6 months then he has finally realised its me who takes the glass to the glass recycling bank (our council are too crap and lazy to collect it with the rest of the recycling). I was wondering what fairies you have in your houses. Mr Erin discovered the hard way we don't have a clothes washing fairy when he had only 1 work shirt on Sunday night instead of the 5 he needed... I think he thought the fairies would do it whole we went to Manchester for the weekend!

We have whole house fairies. They cook, clean and do all the laundry and gardening etc like magic....

Oh yes. Dishwasher-unloading fairies, laundry fairies, ironing fairies (fortunately H has discovered non-iron shirts, so the ironing fairy has had a bit of a break!), bathroom-cleaning fairies...

There is sometimes a tidy-up fairy but she has been on strike lately.

    Oh yes!!

OH discovered a few weeks ago that we don't actually have a fairy who makes the bed when I asked him for help. He still believes in the washing fairy, the hoovering fairy, the tidying up fairy and the fairy who cleans the bathroom.

My H2B does the washing up, but I think he thinks that fairies will wipe down the surfaces, rinse the sink etc. Other than that not really - we've only been living together 8 months, so the housework arrangements we made when we moved in are still a clear memory Smiley smile

I think in our house we have most of the fairies mentioned above!!! More often than not it's the 'tidying-the-bedroom-because-it-looks-like-a-teenagers' fairy!! This is my OH I am talking about... Just seems oblivious to it!!! ?

I probably should admit that there's a coffee fairy in our house who wakes me up with a mug of black coffee every morning.

Ah yes. The loo roll tube seems to magically grow new loo roll. That can be the only explanation for how mrmini leaves an empty one on the holder and then comes back to find a full one in its place.

Mr DCM is actually pretty good but we do have washing fairies (he was very confused when he had no clean shirts once when I didn't do it) and like Mini fairies who change the toilet roll. On the other hand though the bin fairies always take out the rubbish and recycling - I've never done this!

We have dishwasher unloading fairies! Plus a steaming fairy (we steam rather than iron). I can't complain too much as my oh is pretty good x

Or the cloth sat on the side not wrung out and all skanky...or dishes left "to soak" in a bowl of water that then sits there for 3 days. Gross.

Loving this thread - wasn't sure what to expect when I opened it!

OH is fairly good with most house stuff but we do have a toilet roll fairy - she buys them and replaces them - it's just magic.

We have so many fairies I'm amazed my OH hasn't broken his neck tripping over them.

My OH used to be a wonder around the house but he's not anymore, he's become really lazy. I stayed at my mums a couple of nights last week (she's pregnant and needed some help with the kids)and I couldn't believe what I came home to. The house was a disgrace. He hadn't even bothered to give the cats a top up of water in their bowl, it was bone dry Smiley sad

He admitted to me a realisation had hit him of how much I do for him and he wouldn't cope living on his own! At least he admitted it! I just feel sorry for my poor cats when I'm not about Smiley sad

We have lots of fairies in our house. They do the cooking, the washing, the hoovering, the ironing, wipe the sides after Mr Loopz has washed up, the shopping.

They can be buggers though, because they must eat all the biscuits or chocolate in the house too. Mr Loopz seems to have some, but it's gone whenever I go to get any and he's always surprised.

I have a fairy in my house, but it has a nasty habit of moving my brushes/deodorant/bobbles/tweezers/lipgloss and putting them in wardrobes, man drawers, my underwear draw, kitchen drawers or any other nearest available hidey-hole.

I'm very fortunate that H and I share the housework. I iron, he does the cars, I cook, he washes up, I clean kitchen & bathrooms, he hoovers, dusts & empties the bins..

For all his faults, this is one thing (or a couple) I have to give him credit for.

ETA. Actually, I'm not "fortunate". We both work full time, so we *should* share it all.

This morning when I put my salad in my bag H2B said "you should have told me you were making salad, I'd have got you to make me one as well." Well, maybe if you'd been around when I did it, rather than at your friend's til midnight watching Wrestlemania...

I actually think in our house I'm the one guilty of thinking fairies have done things. ?

The fairies in my house clean the bathroom and kitchen, fill and empty the dishwasher, do the bins and the vaccuming and fold and put the washing away.

However what the fairies don't know is that the food doesn't magically cook itself in the kitchen, the shopping doesn't automatically get done when you run out of things and don't tell them you need a replacement, the presents and cards for both families don't automatically get bought and written/wrapped and posted, the dusting isn't done by "other fairies" and the washing does not clean itself.

I think there is a lot of give and take in our house. He is annoyed because when I was a student I did a lot more but I work full time now so I don't have all my days free ( yeah I was a bad student, I pretty much never went except to exams) to do the housework.

Oh goodness me yes, there are fairies for everything in this house, even though they are suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and really shouldn't be lifting/ moving heavy things etc.

OH faithfully promised to "at least" do the dusting and put the bins out when we moved in together, and so far he is yet to do either chore. The only thing he does occasionally do is mow the grass (and even then I have to do edges), I think probably because that's a manly job.

He knows it upsets me that he doesn't pull his weight, but unfortunately I've lost all bargaining chips because I am currently working from home for my job (although out and about for meetings) and therefore there's a perception I have the time and should get on with things (never mind my actual job of course!). But it was the same when I had a two hour commute.

I wonder if I ought to insist on some sort of pre nup that will guarantee help with chores...?!

We have all the usual fairies, plus some select others, mainly:

The chocolate fairy who eats my chocolate.

The haribo fairy who eats H2B's haribo no matter where he hides it.

I also blame anything else that is eaten that shouldn't be on fairies, as well as anything that I lose. The fairies took it.

I can keep a straight face too.

Yep, but it's not the OH who thinks so - it's the kids. I'm perfectly certain they think that we have a fairy who tells me the location of every lost item in the house - if I hear 'Mum, where's my.....?' once more, I think I'll scream lol

then there's the fairy that washes and irons their clothes, produces their packed lunches and does all the shopping; the one who cleans up any messes, pays for their clothing and anything else they require and owns a money tree so that all these things appear without them having to worry at all.
