Do you have central heating in your kitchen?

alfie, 25 November, 2008 at 10:46 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

Are lounge area is in a L shape going around to the dinning area which has a arch into the kitchen. This used to be a seperate kitchen/dinner from the lounge but the owners before us knocked in out into one. We are now making back to how it was and I have some people comign around for quotes this week for various things and I was wondering do you put a heater in a kitchen?

At the moment the heat from the lounge travels round but this will be closed off so I was wondering do you just let the heat from the kitchen warm it up or have a heat put in. It isnt the biggest kitchen but is a fair size.

We have warm air heating but closed the vent in the kitchen because it gets hot enough when the oven is on and there's another vent just in the hallway by the kitchen door.

We have quite a small, galley style kitchen, so we get enough heat from the boiler located in a cupboard at one end.

My folks have a huge open plan kitchen with a radiator.

It depends on the size vs any other heat sources in the room

Our current one is a kitchen diner so we have a radiator

I used to have a kitchen off the lounge with no heating but there was no door so the heat from the lounge helped

If you are closing it off I would put some form of heating in there

Ours is a kitchen diner and we have a medium rad. I always end up switching it off though when the oven is on for a while.

I'd get a rad fitted and then you have the option of turning it down if your too hot.

Better than being cold in my opinion

I have a very very small kitchen, but it has a small radiator in it near the door to the back garden. I tend to keep the setting very low as the kitchen gets really warm when I'm cooking.

We have a 4ft radiator in the kitchen, but it is a very separate room and if no cooking is happening it gets cold in there!

In our last house we took out the massive storage heater in our large kitchen as it was using up useful wall space. We didn't miss it much. Occasionally it was a bit cold in there but once cooking started it wasn't a problem.

In our current house we have just had the floors dug out and replaced, due to issues with the construction, and have put underfloor heating in all rooms on the ground floor, including the kitchen. The kitchen 'loop' has a separate control so we can change the flow as we need to. We're not living in the house yet though, so no idea how this will work.

It depends on many things including the heat loss through external walls, ceiling etc, where the sun is during the day and so on.

We took two rads off when we redecorated and haven't put them back in. It's freezing in the kitchen if the oven isn't on, but roasting if it is which is why we've left them off.

Maybe it will be best to put one in then just set it as I need it. It will be placed down the bottom of the kitchen towards the patio doors to the garden where the table will be so it may be an idea to have it. Thanks everyone.

There is no radiator in our kitchen (fairly new built) There is a fan heater thing in the kick board under the sink though.

We do but its very rarely on, its set to a very low temp, as the lounge / dining room door is generally open and when I am in there for any length of time the cooker and or oven is generally on so it gets too hot.

We do. We have a fairly large kitchen which is an extension so it has (nearly) 3 outside walls. We don't use the oven all that often so it doesn't get too hot in there.

My previous house didn't have any central heating. The kitchen was north facing and it regularly got to 10 degrees in winter. Doing the prep for any cooking was horrible.

We've got Stanley (range) in the kitchen which does the heating for the house so we have that and a radiator as well which is on low. However the kitchen/dining room is fairly large and now it goes through into my study as well which doesn't have a radiator in. So yeah I'd put one in, even if it's just low to keep the chill off in the winter.

We live in a terraced house and so we have a gally kitchen, we do have a radiator in there but it's turned off. We're only really in there to cook and so the cooker is on generating heat, it we have the cooker and the radiator on we have to open the window as it's too hot which to me it's a waste of money.

Our kitchen is a long shaped and long, and we have one radiator in it, when we are cooking the kitchen gets really warm so we don't bother putting the heating on.

We have a small one in the corner, but it's enough to keep the chill off. When the oven is on, the kitchen is very warm, so the rad is kept on low.

We didn't put a radiator in our kitchen and I really regret it. It's has three external walls and gets really, really cold but the worst thing is the condensation when we cook which makes the window frames go mouldy. We have a range and no extractor fan which doesn't help though.

Our kitchen is small and when we had it all re-done and tiled we still had the storage heaters. When we changed to central heating last year we didn't want to mess the shiny new kitchen so there is no heating in there (the oven gives enough out when thats on.)
