Do you have to LOVE your dress?

SunnyRedDiamonds44, 15 September, 2013 at 13:24 Posted on Planning 0 19

I am getting married in May 2015. We are on a tight budget, I found a wedding dress for £100 (second hand) I tried it on for 10 minutes. I have a photo I took. But I don't love the dress. Is it that much of an issue do you think? I am already wondering what I am going to change into after the church as I don't think I would want it on all day.

Any advice?

I can't say that I "love" my dress..........it serves a purpose I suppose, I wasn't going to even have a proper wedding dress and didn't want to spend very much on one.................I'd have preferred to have a more serviceable dress - one I could wear after the day, but as someone said, I'd look like a guest and not the bride! The dress I've got is nice, makes me look slim and like a bride........................I put more importance on the venue & food being served etc

You don't have to LOVE it but you should at least feel comfortable wearing it all day. You still have so long I would say hold out and look around. At least try and find something that you are comfortable wearing all day.

What style of dress is it? You don't have to stay in it if you don't want to but what would you wear in the evening? Is it because you don't like it or because it's not comfortable? Why don't you try it on again and have a bit of a flounce in it? ?

Could you post the photo? We love a flash!

Are you able to put your finger on what you *don't* love about it?

In going to go against the grain here and say you should love it!

I didn't want to take mine off after I tried it on and any wait to try it on again!

you should definitely feel comfortable in the dress and want to wear it! If your already thinking about taking it off maybe it's not the one!

you'd probably end up spending more money having to find a second dress for the evening.

If you buy it just for the sake of buying a dress that fits your budget you may end up doubting your decision later on, regretting it and potentially have to spend more money on a replacement. Even with a budget is £100 you could find a dress you do love and feel comfo0rtable wearing all day.

Agree with PinkB, you should feel utterly fabulous in your wedding dress, one in a million. That doesn't mean it has to be expensive. Just don't 'settle'.

I also feel you should love your dress! I also bought mine second hand for £100 but it was exactly what I wanted and I felt beautiful in it when I tried it on, could not stop smiling! Even on a tight budget, it can be done and you can always resell the one you have x

Yes I loved mine. I didn't want to take it off in the shop.

I think it's important to love your dress, there's the risk of dress wobbles, and you might look back at the photos and think 'If only...'. Shops do sample sales, you don't have to just buy the first thing you try on. Plus, you won't know what suits you so why not go dress shopping and find out? Then shop around.

I wouldn't buy a "once in a lifetime" dress unless I loved it! I have put on loads of really nice dresses but I only loved one!

It's your choice when all is said & done but you don't want any regrets further down the line about what might have been had you not just settled!

I don't think it's too much of a big deal if you like it enough to wear it all day & feel comfortable in it.
However it's your one and only wedding day and it's important to feel comfortable and feel you look the best you possible could.
Agree that you shouldn't settle if you think a better dress is waiting on you, you don't want to look back in years to come regretting not getting one you really do love. x

In general agreement with peeps here; it's not the most important factor of the day, but it *is* important that you feel happy, comfortable and fab!

And as others have said: you may end up spending more in the long run by having to get a second one to change in to

And you still have loads of time!

I love my dress, I do love other dresses more than my dress to look at but they didn't tick the boxes that mine did for me. £100 might not seem like a lot to spend on a dress but you'd be amazed what you can actually find for that or not much more. I'd hold on a while longer and see what comes up xx

Everyone's priorities are different, and it doesn't matter if you spend £2 or £2,000 on your dress, but it should make you feel good. If you're already thinking about changing out of your dress and into something else after the ceremony it sounds like your dress doesn't make you feel fab, so I think you should keep shopping around. Just my tuppence, but I'm a very strong believer in the idea that if you feel great and comfortable in what you wear then you will look amazing, no matter what.

I agree with everyone here, you really should feel confident and beautiful on your wedding day! Have you tried looking at high street dresses? Monsoon do some beautiful ones that come in at less than £300.

Personally I think it's important to feel beautiful, comfortable and confident in your dress. After all whether you like it or not you are going to be centre of attention. Best not to settle for something you don't love, and if you don't want it on all day that's a good indicator it isn't the right one!

I don't think you have to love your dress, no.

It's a dress you will be wearing for a few hours.

I agree with the others you need to feel comfortable. I can't wait to try mine on again. it was prob mid price at 600.

I also think that the fact youv'e asked this question means your quiet unsure about your dress too.

Should you love your dress? IMO... yes! A tight budget doesn't mean settling on a dress... not once in your post did you hint to even 'liking' your dress... I don't think it is the right one I am afraid! x

I don't think you should have to love your dress but as you're already thinking of changing out of it before the end of the day then I think you should keep looking.

Another bargain might come up. Try BHS or Monsoon, they have offers and sales on and some of their dresses are really pretty. Or there's always pre-loved?
