Do you know anything about sherry or have a Nigella Christmas book?

Hickory, 2 December, 2008 at 13:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

I've lent mine to a friend but have a photocopy of one recipe here that i want to make tonight/tomorrow. it's the Christmas Puddini bonbons. I need Pedro Ximenez sherry (as far as i know, it's a sweet, dark sherry) but i can't find it in any of the places i'd normally expect to find this (even quite specialist shops).

I'm sure i remember a stockists list at the back of the book. Would anyone have a spare moment to check and see what that stockist is? Equally - if you know where i can get Pedro Ximenez sherry, i'd be very very grateful.

And finally, if you're a sherry buff - could you recommend an equivalent sherry for me to use?

Phew, seemed like such a simple question and now it looks so long! Thanks in advance!

    It's www.jeroboams.co.uk so not a regular shop I'm afraid

    Thanks very much, both!

Unfortunately it's out of stock there (too many Nigella addicts!) so if anyone knows of any other stockists or an alternative i'd be delighted!

Its a dessert sherry apparently. Could try Moscatel instead which is also a dessert sherry. Alternatively, would Marsala do the trick?

Ah right, I didn't know that, just assumed that because it was a website instead of a shop name...

Thanks all! A friend has tracked it down to a Majestic wine shop near why i live. £10 per bottle.

Croyde, thanks for the links. I was trying to avoid having to buy a whole case though so had discounted Tesco. Useful if i'm ever doing a giant batch though!

Thanks also for the recs on other dessert wines (sorry i can't see who suggested them!), very kind of you.

Oh I didn't mean for you to buy a case ...just that Tesco is a stockist and there may be a chance your local one has some stock
