Do you make your bed in the morning when you get up?

sherry, 27 January, 2009 at 22:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 50

Just pondering really. Some days I do some days I don't.

    Nope.

My MIL turns the covers back until after lunch, then makes them. What it is to have a routine...

Erm no ? I'm currently sharing my bed with half of my wardrobe I'm too lazy to put away ? When my room is tidy I do tend to make the bed though.

When we stay at mine, the bed is made by whoever gets up last, unless the cleaner is coming (she changes the sheets) or we don't really get up. I hate coming home to an unmade bed.

    Spotless

The mixture of satisfaction and horror I feel when witnessing the carnage after the girls have spent the day there is overwhelming at times.

If she hasn't made them by 2pm, she remarks on it - oooh, here I am out shopping and I haven't made the beds yet...

<sigh> no wonder WTP won't clean.

It's made by me the second I get up. Okay - I allow myself half an hour on weekends! I strip and re-make it the second I get up on a Saturday. I have been known to start removing all the sheets whilst my OH is still asleep, lol! I am the only person allowed to make it, as I am the only one who arranges the cushions properly. I am not lying ?

Yes, most mornings. Its only when I'm running a bit late that the covers just get flung back and gets made when I get in from work.

When I manage to make the bed I just put the cushions on the pillows, in alternating colours.

Han - I can believe that.

LTP - I can't imagine what it would be like to be shopping and thinking about my bed not being made ?

Dare you to start a thread asking how often people change their sheets?

Cushions? You mean like throw pillows? have you seen "along came polly" - get a kitchen knife and free yourself from scatter cushion hell.

Nope, I don't see the point. I fold the duvet back when I get up and it stays back until we go to bed.

(I hope my mother doesn't read this)

I leave the covers thrown well back all day. It allows the bed to air donchaknow.

Does throwing the duvet back on the bed count as making it?

Our bed is only properly made right after the covers have been changed.

Most days one of us will throw the duvet back to mostly the right position. I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to do?

I'm not sure of the terminological difference, but they came from the cushion section of B&Q!!!! Nah, can't start a thread like that. It may imply that I have enough reason to change my sheets on such a regular basis.... ?? Although on that note, cushions are a good addition to the bed-making routine ?

I don't but then h is always up after I have left the house. He would never make them but I'm not bothered. Apparently bed bugs prefer a well made bed.

It gets made every day (badly) by the husband as he is the last one up ...I cant stand an unmade bed, I just like it looking all neat. (although this was not my therory whilst I was a student!)

Nope as most mornings there's still someone in it - and there's no way Mr BB would think to make it. I can't get into an unmade be though so it tends to get done just before I get back in it <slovenlyicon>

Not usually. It seems to end up with a wedge of duvet in the middle where we've both thrown the covers back into the centre. Sometimes when I go upstairs later in the day to get something from our room I may cover it properly.

Anyway sure that leaving it uncovered kills any mites etc which are in the matress, so I'm really doing myself a favour!

From Sunday-Thursday it doesn't get made as H is just getting into it at about 8am after finishing his night shift! Though he will fix the sheet and mattress protector back into place when he gets up, but leaves the duvet in a heap on the centre of the bed.

The rest of the week who ever is last up (usually me) will fix the sheet and mattress protector back into position and fold down the duvet to cover the bottom half of the bed to air it. I'll also open the window for an hour to let the bed have some fresh air?

I never make the bed. I like getting into a messy bed, its comforting and smoochy.

Mr Nora makes the bed with me in it.

I hate getting into made beds - I have to ruffle them all up before I can get into them. I only make my bed once a week when the sheets and covers are changed, and then just leave the duvet in a heap to wrap around me when I get into bed.

My mother is like LTP's mil, and turns the bed back neatly each morning, and then has the bed made properly each day by lunchtime. I hate staying at her house, as she does the same to my bed.

Yes, H has 'learnt' to do it as I am usually first out of the door early morning.... I couldn't couldn't couldn't get into an unmade bed. It would be like putting yesteday's underwear on. I like to change my bedding far more often than H would like and unfortunately he has to put the quilt cover on as I get lost under a super-kingsize bed. I have tried and cannot work it out. All the corners seem to collect together in a heap

I sort of put the pillows back where they should be and chuck the duvet (unironed cover and all) back over, just so there's a flat surface to pile up whatever stuff I need on.

what PL said. I don't have cushions or anything like that, just pillows and a duvet so throwing it into the right sort of position works

I fold the duvet back to let it air. And open the windows.

The idea of making it the minute I get up makes me feel sick - the sheets are moist and covered in skin cells (even if you don't realise it), why not breed some germs. Ick!
