Do you take your WR off?

*Mini*, 16 October, 2011 at 17:41 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 44

Speaking to nana mini her WR has never been taken off since her husband (who passed away 10 years ago now) put it on over 60 years ago- this is very romantic and all but is it practical?

I take mine off in the bath/shower, to put make up/body lotion on or to put alcohol gel on my hands- am I the only one or do you take yours off too?

I only have an ER at the moment, but I do take it off to wash, handcream, do gardening, running etc so that will be the same for my WR when I get it!

I've only got an ER at the moment, but always take it off to shower, wash up, put on hand cream, do the gardening. I'll do the same with my WR I would imagine. My mum never takes hers off.

I don't take mine off for any day to day activities, although we did both take our rings off on HM when we swap with the dolhpins as knew we'd be in water all day and was afraid of losing them.

I purposely chose my ring in the design I did so there are no little claws etc for food/lotion etc to hide (after my previous ER was a claw held solitaire which held so much crap).

If it discolours then so be it, as long as my WR and ER discolour the same speed i'm not fussed and TBH if I took it off to shower/cook etc then i'd forget to put it back on.

My ER has claws and I clean it with a toothbrush....

I take my rings off when my hands come into contact with any liquids other than water and when I clean the toilet, when I obviously wear rubber gloves.

I take my ER off quite a lot because I'm not allowed to wear it at work, and also for anything where it might get caught/dirty. I tend to wear my WR most of the time, and am trying to master putting on moisturiser etc without covering it in crap! I would also take it off for any sports etc where it might get damaged or come off.

Yes, I take mine off for hand cream, toilet cleaning and gardening (or similar activities) and even have a tough tungsten carbide alternative one for surfing and horse riding etc.

But it does have diamonds in it so is more delicate than a plain one.

My last wedding ring never left my finger for 19 years....

For those who take them off, is there a reason I should be doing so? I don't take off any of my jewellry ever, not my necklace, diamond studs etc - am I missing something?

My WR has 2 dozen teeny diamonds set into the stone which I assume makes it "delicate" to soome but I assumed that an item such as a WR was made to be life-proof and so treat it like every other item of jewellery I have.

I take my ER off when using moisturiser, anti-bac gel, washing, swimming but I seem to be the only one who takes it off when I go to bed. I don't think I've ever slept with it on. But then, I always take any jewellery off to go to bed.

I take my engagemnet ring off when I go to bed. I tried wearing it to bed once but it twisted round and dug into my other fingers. Plus i often sleep with my hands under my head and wouldn't want to scratch my face with it. I also have to take it off when I operate at work (i'm a vet). I had to make sure my ring is big enough that I can easily get it off because I have to take it off so often.

I take my ER off for work as our infection control policy means we aren't allowed to wear rings with stones. I remember a colleague had hers in her scrubs pocket which she forgot about and left it for laundering. She cried for weeks about it. I'd be devastated if I lost mine so I now take it off the night before.

When we first got engaged I would take my ER ring off all the time, washing up, shower etc. 3 days after we got engaged, I took my ring off so I could wash my hands in the bathroom and placed it on the glass shelf, where it bounced off and disappeared. I thought it had fallen down the back of the sink where there is a gap and I spent the next 10 mins trying to find it and thinking what to say to my OH. If it had have fallen down there, we would have to break open the tiles to go to it. Luckily I found it. but since then I very rarely take off either my WR or ER.

I take my ring off at bedtime as I move a lot when I sleep and last time I left it on I looked like I had been attacked as my face was covered in scratches

I take my engagement ring off quite a lot - to shower, walk the dog, at bedtime etc. I can't imagine my wedding ring will be removed very often though.

I used to only wear my engagement ring at wkends! Never bothered with work, gym etc.

Now I wear both all the time - taking them off for housework, showering, moisturising & fake tanning....and kettlebell class.

I take my ER off quite a lot, It's white gold so I don't want to make it fade any quicker! I take it off when I have a shower, moisturise, do the pots, cleaning with products with bleach in etc. OH likes these times, as he jokes that we're not engaged anymore and he can do what he wants! I sent it off the other month for re-plating and it was away for week. I missed it at first but got used to not wearing it after a while.

When I first got my e-ring, it was a bit too big for me, so I used to take it off for showering. After I got it made smaller, the only thing I take it off for is cooking where I have to get my hands in the food.

Mine ER is a cluster ring with claws so take it off when im doing cake decorating as bits of icing get stuck in it otherwise. And i take it off to wash up (if i ever do lol) but apart from that, no, id be scared id misplace it or knock it down somewhere unreachable!!

I don't take mine off for much, if anything. It's a plain, tough-as-old-boots metal alloy so pretty sure there's nothing that can tarnish it/attack it. The wedding ring I had for the day is packed away in a box now.

I was just wondering in regards to whether people had been advised to by a Jeweller, whether it was bad for the rings etc. But if that is not the case, I shall indeed do as I want ?
